What a ridiculous strawman. OP wasn't proposing removing the police, and any charitable take would have understood that given the topic of the article.
From the title alone I was going to comment that these tools we build are not about not procrastinating but about chasing some illusionary productivity.
My own examples
- Instead of learning a language, I can write a tool that generates flashcards for me from books I'm reading, surely that's better than "actually" reading a book
- Instead of using my morning willpower to hit the gym, surely a dashboard that shows me how many reps I did per week, with graphs of my progressions will get me better gains ... someday.
The fact you called it ProductivityProxy seems like we are on the same page.
But I used to enjoy learning - I think most of us did. The existential crisis many are experiencing is about the lack of fulfilment in rolling an LLM slot machine all day in an already dopamine depleting environment.
> The UK doesn't support cigarettes, so the law gets passed. If someone has a public opinion poll there showing less than 50% support for this, I'd love to see it.
Isn't the impetus on the makers of this bill to show there is more than 50% support for this.
I'm not a fan of smoking but this isn't the governments job imo. Not to mention the odd precedent of do what I say not as I do, with different laws for different generations.
> ChatGPT initially responded that the earnout would be “difficult to cancel” but later at ChatGPT’s suggestion Kim formed an internal taskforce, dubbed Project X.
Anyone know how they got access to his conversation with ChatGPT? Can the court order the transcripts for a particular user, or was this leaked more conventionally - e.g. a coworker / hack?
> You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action. Never consider yourself the cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty.
I have a hard time interpreting that as what geohotz is saying. If anything it seems to promote rent seekers by telling you - stick to your lane and don't complain. I.e. the caste system
If there is a 15 move sequence that leads to a guaranteed win, stockfish would not call it a 1 pawn advantage (given the sufficient calculation time) instead calling it a won position.
I think you may be mistaking your understanding of stockfish as shallow in that regard.
Where the big differences might emerge is in strategic mid game positions without any clear tactics or forcing moves. There lc0 can somehow "feel" that a position seems better.
Isn't that exactly the argument Örebro would make about islam and europe.
