Austin also has hundreds of miles of land around it in all directions. Coastal cities are always expensive because of the geographical barriers causing over half of potential lands to be water and having a lot of bottlenecks to get into the city

In relationships, above all - whatever works. Didn’t mean to sound judgmental of people who are like that and find happiness

I mean the problem here sounds to be that you were dating a mental 15 year old.

I mean if your SO will only watch “Minions” straight to video movies then maybe you just need to find one of the other million activities out there to do together.

I just don’t see that as a problem. I’m not looking to date a clone of myself. That would be boring and unhealthy as I’d re-re-inforce my worst habits without any counterbalance

Exactly - I don’t go to my wife to gush over the latest database optimization details I discovered expecting to have a deep technical discussion. Maybe the executive summary. I talk to my coworkers or friends or online people who are excited about the same details. If someone can only feel close to you when they speak of crossword puzzles I wonder if they’re on the spectrum or need to join a crossword club or something.

We do have a baseline of shared philosophies and views but even there we often find that we slightly disagree on details.

Setting boundaries is a huge secret skill. I force people to explicitly tell me that i must do something extra and it almost never happens and I get to work a 35-40h week.

Boss messages me to look at something after hours? I won’t read it. If it’s a problem they can explicitly tell me that they expect me to be available at all hours and then we’ll have that discussion. And in that I’ll say that it’s not acceptable for me but I can split my day in two if it’s important for me to be available late in the day. If they want me to do calls at 5am I’ll say it’s doable and then I’ll end my day at 1pm of course

What you could do is compensate for that by ending your day an hour early or by taking a long lunch break. You were working late or early unwittingly and solved a problem. I’ve learned to notice when I’m just spinning my wheels to hit that 8h for the day and now I just stop for the day when that happens. Then if something does come up I don’t end up doing overtime on top of everything. I don’t feel guilty since I get paid for results, not hours in front of my machine and because I know I can’t stop thinking about the problem in the shower or when I wake up in the middle of the night

The premium would have to be insane for someone not to go bankrupt when they have to cover a 600M theft or even the more common 50M level. There are only a handful of profitable DeFi companies to buy the plan and I’d imagine most have a policy of YOLO when it comes to security

Probably never were. It’s only lately that parents are expected to watch their kids every step until they turn 18. Back in the day you’d just tell them to go throw rocks in the well with the other village kids and come back at sundown

So you’re saying putting 40 minutes to things every day works wonders.

I still love programming and if I wasn't working I'd be doing it as a hobby. But its halfway satiated/suppressed by the sheer amount of it I have to do every week now.

I will say Object Oriented Programming has probably also had a giant impact on how we model game systems. Is functional programming on the Process end of the scale?

I don’t really understand how this is genius? Basic philosophy 101 and systems thinking concepts.

The Room is like outsider art. Which is a really dumb label if you think about what art is supposed to be

I agree. If you want to influence a art form like games or music or writing, you have to have skin in the game and release things. Telling others their way is wrong isn’t going to change anything, the burden is on you to present that your model works and is superior in some way. You just have to have hard material you’ve created for that to happen. Everyone has their own great ideas to validate

Especially in a game context, you usually have to pick a few details from the real world to simulate to make a compelling game. Too many variables and it gets hard for the player to track what's the cause and effect of what is happening.
