I have my health, a career and I have my parents but this has been the hardest of holiday seasons. While I'm blessed, I feel like I'm falling behind peers who are are in serious relationships and starting families of their own; guess it's one of the first times I've felt lonely and the world/reality closing in.
This thread has been a good read; to me its a reminder to charish what I have and remember to look forward to tomorrow. Some Sun would sure help...
My friends switched from whatsapp to signal for day. We switched back after a matter of hours. We couldn't find a way to quote messages to reply to them, which is critical for group conversions where multiple threads are happening at once. Also there was no ability to @user to direct a message at a specific person. As for the app, there was unnecessary whitespace between messages--even using smallest font size. Usability vs unauditable security is tough calculus but I think technical people weigh security more then their less technical friends.
Shkreli's youtube streams on finance were always pretty interesting and if you omit is trollish behavior, he generally was very respectable and seemed to enjoy teaching people about medicine, mathematics and finance. The videos are available online and I think reflect a different personality than the one he presented in public.
From what I understand--yes. They would need to "settle" their transfer on the blockchain and then open a new channel. The solution to this from what I've read is an IOU mechanism and a third party that has a channel with almost everyone. If the third party is rich then each channel is theoretically huge.
ALICE --(IOU to bob for 10k)---> CAROL --(IOU from alice for 10k)--> BOB
He was actually found not guilty of that charge. The charges he was found guilty related to him lying to investors when he lost their money in a hedge fund he operated. According to the jury, he felt bad about this and made them whole by paying them back in stock. All said and done--everyone made money, including some his accusers who made 10x their original investment.
Nice work. A few days ago I tried xfce4 with little luck, although xfce4-terminal + Xming get me pretty much everything I need. Windows ConHost.exe is a pretty poor terminal (specifically in terms of fonts and colors) but hopefully things will get better in time.

Is it possible that he deleted the e-mail address @gmx when he left the project and that it has been recycled? Someone else may have been able to sign up, then use the reset password feature on these other sites. It is likely that the @gmx address would have been destroyed at the conclusion of his participation in the project, as all relevant information and e-mails have been public from the beginning.
1) Satoshi finishes with Bitcoin and deletes GMX account
2) He does not delete other accounts (sourceforge, i2p, etc)
3) GMX account is recycled after x period of time
4) Person signs up for @gmx account after it is recycled
5) Passwords for other sites are reset because they still point to the @gmx e-mail address as a recovery
6) Person tries to profit by extortion and fails
This is probably the most likely scenario... and they probably don't have any of Satoshi's information because it is unlikely that any e-mails were still in the box when he re-set up the @gmx address.
