The C30 64GB kits are nearly impossible to buy now, so, well done. Got one in September '23 for ~$380 AUD, on the rare occasions it's available today it's been over $1600 AUD.

I upgraded my UPS to a sine interactive unit to minimise the risk of it dying to bad power while the market is so crazy...

I have about 14 or 15 USB devices in addition to my 4 monitors, and whilst I'm sure you're right I'm very happy to have a high quality soundcard that is not part of that mix.

Yup the 4090 and SoundBlaster ZXR in my AM5 7800X3D system would both like to upvote your reply.

I use the speed chime in my Model 3 car to alert me if I'm more than 2 km/h over the posted speed limit, which it infers from its database with the autopilot camera providing overrides.

If I'm over that when passing a speed camera in Victoria, AUS, I'll be pinged with a decent fine to arrive shortly.

Imagine if instead of a chime I got fined every single time, everywhere? All this new monitoring makes it a bit like that, at an extreme. I don't want to live in such a society.

The idea discussed in the article was one of progressive overload; slowly make your body adapt to an ever increasing workload. Don't go straight for the 200kg deadlift when you are new to the gym, in other words.

The endpoint stuff kills laptop performance. I left my previous job and they let me keep my X1 Nano (1st gen; 16GB memory) which was performing abysmally towards the end.

Deleted all the partitions and did a 100% clean install (multi boot Win11/Fedora), and it's suddenly what feels like 2-4x as fast. Made sure to disable some of the Copilot and Internet content in search menu rubbish etc with a few registry tweaks (yay for having admin access to get rid of the bloat/junk).

Fedora/Wayland/Plasma still feels faster though - I just had some issues getting my video to work properly across all of Teams and Zoom.

I missed that - thanks!

Would it kill them to let me specify my own username, as it appears in `c:\users\$username` ?

Lol, you can find these with Google Maps. Tested in Melbourne, Australia in an incognito Google Maps web session. Brothels are legal here.

The video was extremely well made - such a joy to watch!

I bought it based on this comment, on sale now at Steam! It looks great, thanks.

FWIW I put a few hours into building a starting city, and no real issues with performance now in that a game like this clearly doesn't depend on smooth frames quite like a flight simulator does. I think there was at least one major patch since when I first tried it, which might have helped. There's lots of detail and modelling, this could be a bit of a dangerous time sink. :-)

I could certainly see why my old system (5800x3d / 3070 / 64) doesn't play it quite as nicely for my son's bigger 3440x1440x60hz monitor though; it certainly made the 4090 busy.

I just got CP2077 along with a new system, where I experience frame rates regularly north of 150 - almost always north of 100 with PBR, everything maxed out. It runs incredibly smooth 100% of the time, and looks completely stunning on my 32" 2560x1440x144 monitor. Specs are 4090/7800x3d, 64gb 6000c30, 990 pro nvme, bought mostly for being able to run DCS World (and iRacing) on triple screens plus Star Citizen. The 4090 is beast, and absolutely worth it.

I haven't had time or perhaps motivation to load up CS2 much, with that superb Cyberpunk story to be explored (and planes to fly), but on the initial tutorial I noticed a weirdly low fps for what was not a super impressive image.

I installed Skylines 2 through my gamepass; my initial thoughts were to come back after some post release patch cycles.

It took the CP2077 team a lot of time but they completely turned a trainwreck into something rather magic, so I'm hoping Skylines 2 will experience the same. I did enjoy the original release years ago. (Edit: Gamers Nexus' video led me to City Planner Plays, which shows just what can be made - the scope of Skylines 2 looks amazing, given my hardware I could probably get into it sooner rather than later!)

Finally a kudos to the author for this in depth, well written article! I really enjoyed it.

Check the router? On my ubiquity unify cloud key admin I can track what devices are connected.

Also there's a test page that you can print which should detail the IP address.

It could be that the printer got new IP address and your PC is remembering the last, or something like that.

Shilling? Yeah, I spent nearly a decade here on HN, building up to the moment of my above post. Got me.

Not mine, thankfully. I detailed that in a sibling reply.

Searched for a Brother comment to reply to - found it, thanks! :-)

I don't do a lot of printing, but when I do it's for a real need and I just want it to work. So I got another HL-L2375DW (mono full duplex laser) last year to replace my first which I gave to my ex after separation/divorce - a perfect little unit, not a trace of HP-level BS anywhere to be found. It goes to sleep with minimal power use, and wakes up when needed, even weeks or months between each use - can print straight from my Samsung phone with no extra driver install needed, as well as from PC naturally. I've just set it up on the Wifi, but it also has a network port + USB. Perfect.

It was only around 200 AUD; mind you the included toner wasn't the biggest but I only need it for occasional use so it's still going strong. I'll probably get their big drum when it eventually runs out (that's what I did with my 1st, ex printed a lot more than I) and whilst I could go 3rd party I'll just buy theirs anyway to support them in a small way.

Ha ha yes this is great. To get my daughter to snap out of crying at night when she needs to go to bed I name her fluffy toys incorrectly. She immediately forgets her worries to correct me. So much fun.

(Here, hug this big - handing her a koala).

Agreed on both counts. Those chips indicate some truly rough handling.

If it's anything like my S21 Ultra, the paint is very strong and premium.
