It is dangerous if you give the technology to only the oppressors. If you release it to the world open source, you will better the free world and scientific community.

I was going to post something very similar, as I would use it specifically to watch videos that want me to give up information and sign in. I don't find that reasonable, thus I adjust accordingly my taking these countermeasures.
You are being downvoted to suppress your well thought out information. It would be nice if HN had a public ledger of who up or down voted a post. You would click on the post and could see which usernames voted and which way. It would bring much needed transparency to combat these information suppression abuses.
I, too, would like to know the definitive answer to this, as I feel like a malicious DNS packet was used against a computer of mine before connected to the VPN.
You are completely correct about the nodes being run for all sorts of nefarious reasons. Although, there are a small number of nodes rub by enthusiastic individuals but it's rare.
Reddit has tons of actors spreading disinfo especially about VPN's never trust the info from there without serious vetting.
