As much as the anti-JS circlejerk would like to say otherwise, I can confidently and quickly fix bugs and add new features into a massive React project, once it’s been reviewed deploying it in minutes to the entire prod user base with no problem.
Now, being able to do stuff fast does lead to feature creep. But don’t succumb to main character syndrome. What is ”useless” to you is essential to a million others.
You have to look at it from the company’s point of view. As the accounts can be created for free, every day millions of grifters are pulling shady shit. Using stolen CCs to purchase, trying to scam the support team, refund scams, identity theft… You name it and it happens.
Sounds more like classic large organization things.
I bet there were some employees who saw the estimates were untrustable and the entire thing was heading towards failure, but good luck changing the course of a ship controlled by hundreds of people.
But just like I can trust the things I buy from the grocery stone to not poison me or to have stones embedded inside, I trust medical products taken by millions or even billions of people
