I'm still unsure why programming jobs haven't mostly been outsourced to India. Sure the contractors suck but people at IBM, India tend to write decent code for IBM, US.
in a post gun warfare world where the state has weapons far exceeding what is legal or really possible for a organized militia to hold this is a pipe dream. muskets used to be state of the art.
didn't MIT, like most other schools change this only in wake of COVID? A pandemic resulting in a significant amount of your potential applicants from applying is pretty good reason.
democratic socialist isn't inherently interchangeable with social democracy. the DSA defines democratic socialism as explicitly at odds with capitalism, and aims to achieve socialism by going through and past social democracy (where european social democracy is plenty capitalist). Mamdani himself has actively disavowed capitalism.
> Capitalism is a system designed by the owning class to exploit the rest of us for their own profit. We must replace it with democratic socialism, a system where ordinary people have a real voice in our workplaces, neighborhoods, and society.
> We believe there are many avenues that feed into the democratic road to socialism. Our vision pushes further than historic social democracy and leaves behind authoritarian visions of socialism in the dustbin of history.
> [...] We want to win “radical” reforms like single-payer Medicare for All, defunding the police/refunding communities, the Green New Deal, and more as a transition to a freer, more just life.
if you think consumers will pay more for the vague notion of privacy i have beachfront property in kansas to sell you. most normies either don't care ("I have nothing to hide ... do you?") or gave up already ("china / the government / big tech / all of the above already have all my data, why would I care if it's a bit more? what are they even going to do with it?" (sometimes, even "i like having relavent ads!")).
at my most pessimistic i can see a world where consumers pay MORE for attestation to continue to opt-in to society, or perhaps a ai-bot-free digital world.
I'm not sure why you think a portion of the general voting base is "rent seeking", but it's the opinion of one without empathy. pick a better one that's at least not simultaneously stupid.
> If Trump wins and Elon has influence, I do think there is a path to fix America longer term. While the general Trump/Elon vibes are good, I do have concerns about Trump’s fiscal record and protectionist tendencies. [...]
> Of course if Kamala wins, I think I’ll be staying in Asia. Managed decline with a side of resentment and looting oligarchs isn’t for me.
