Even if those processes share most of their memory, and are written in a notoriously memory-unsafe language?
A significant performance improvement can well be the difference between being able to run the entire database on one beefy server, and having to shard. And that has a huge cost in terms of complexity and thus reliability and development time.
What's online about this restart? Just that the tcp port keeps listening? I assume all running transaction will have to be aborted, right? And connections dropped?
Reliability issues occuring in the hypergrowth stage of a company's lifetime has always been pretty common, way before agents were involved in the scaling. And that was for products for which the computational load for a single client was negligible. For inference though, even a single client's load is pretty terrifying.
Apparently they were given information by the US embassy that these people were an "active thread". Perhaps they could have figured out that this was bullshit sooner, but I don't think it's the police who are at fault here.
You are meaningfully misquoting here ("doing their job" not "following orders", which has a different ring to it, at least for me).
Also, apparently they do have brains capable of thinking because: "Eventually, they accepted that we were journalists and that they disagreed with detaining us."
Right. So regulation isn't actually all that different than it is in Europe, except that some especially hot parts of the US mandate airco for rental housing, which is something I don't think is being done in Europe yet.
That's only accounting for the energy the airco unit consumes. What the airco unit does is remove heat from the inside of the house, and dump it outside. That effect is about 4 times larger.
Well yeah, it takes time to adjust to new circumstances. Especially since weather events don't come with any documentation saying things like "this will happen every two years now".
Are renters in the US specifically permitted by law to install airco units that require permanent modification to the property? Or are landlords mandated to install airco units on a renters request? Or..?
