> Clearly a process per connection is more stable

Even if those processes share most of their memory, and are written in a notoriously memory-unsafe language?

A significant performance improvement can well be the difference between being able to run the entire database on one beefy server, and having to shard. And that has a huge cost in terms of complexity and thus reliability and development time.

What's online about this restart? Just that the tcp port keeps listening? I assume all running transaction will have to be aborted, right? And connections dropped?

That doesn't talk about showering illegals with welfare. And yes, deportation is hard when the target countries are not cooperating.

> The difference is EU doesn't do deportations and instead showers illegals with welfare

I don't even know how to begin to respond to such nonsense.

Being a good citizen is not the same as (or even all that much related to) receiving an above average salary.

Reliability issues occuring in the hypergrowth stage of a company's lifetime has always been pretty common, way before agents were involved in the scaling. And that was for products for which the computational load for a single client was negligible. For inference though, even a single client's load is pretty terrifying.

I stand corrected.

Though your point may have some value, your comment comes across as meanspirited and ad hominem.

Also, regulation is not universally supported by knowledgeable consumers. Often quite the opposite, in fact.

A rational person could argue both against EU surveillance laws and in favour of more EU digital independence.

Apparently they were given information by the US embassy that these people were an "active thread". Perhaps they could have figured out that this was bullshit sooner, but I don't think it's the police who are at fault here.

You rescind an invitation by (preferably kindly) asking the people in question to leave. Not by informing the police that they are an "active threat".

You are meaningfully misquoting here ("doing their job" not "following orders", which has a different ring to it, at least for me).

Also, apparently they do have brains capable of thinking because: "Eventually, they accepted that we were journalists and that they disagreed with detaining us."

> At the point they ask you to leave for whatever reason and you don't comply, then it becomes trespass and the police can be asked to remove you.

According to the journalists' account, they were never asked to leave.

Though I agree with the rest of your reasoning.

Right. So regulation isn't actually all that different than it is in Europe, except that some especially hot parts of the US mandate airco for rental housing, which is something I don't think is being done in Europe yet.

You could argue that. But you'd be wrong. :-)

> and defer overly to expert opinion

That... doesn't sound so bad?
vanviegen
·vor 17 Tagen·discuss
That's only accounting for the energy the airco unit consumes. What the airco unit does is remove heat from the inside of the house, and dump it outside. That effect is about 4 times larger.
vanviegen
·vor 17 Tagen·discuss
Well yeah, it takes time to adjust to new circumstances. Especially since weather events don't come with any documentation saying things like "this will happen every two years now".
vanviegen
·vor 17 Tagen·discuss
Are renters in the US specifically permitted by law to install airco units that require permanent modification to the property? Or are landlords mandated to install airco units on a renters request? Or..?

No, they do specify token counts, as they let you pay for them. They just don't tell you what these thinking tokens actually are.
