For years I have been eating only evening meal, so I fast between 22 and 24 hours. I started doing this because it was very convenient for me to do so. I did not know anything about possible health benefits doing it, I was actually afraid to do any research if I would find out that eating only once a day was very dangerous and bad for you, but it fitted so well with my lifestyle that I wanted to continue no matter what.
A side effect is that I never feel really hungry anymore, even if I have been fasting for more than 25 hours. Before I could eat at noon and a few hours later be extremely hungry again. I really enjoy my evening meal complete with dessert, but I don't feel that deep hunger, almost pain, anymore.
Most of the time I only drink while eating and this can be a problem, especially in the summer and on the days I jog, as I can become very confused after not drinking for so many hours. As long as I stay hydrated everything is great, so I need to become better at that.
It's absolutely horrible that we have come to accept that not having full control over our devices is acceptable in any way. This will sadly be the leverage to completely end general-purpose computing.
Why is a mobile device not just a small form factor? Why does it also have to remove all our rights at the same time?
I develop a lot of command line tools for Linux using shell scripting. The scripts are getting huge and ugly, so I have been looking at Go and it seems I can do so many things by just using the standard library and in general a big improvement over using scripting.
However, everytime Go is discussed at HN I see many posts criticizing the language for various reasons and this has put me off getting started learning Go.
I really like systemd because all the controversy made me look towards FreeBSD, and this has really been a great experience. No offense, but I can't stop thinking about the Linux community as a screaming child with short attention span. The BSD community seems more like an old grey beard, sitting calmly in the corner solving problems in the best way possible. This may take some time but the result is often superior.
