We do need a better way to measure value people create. For example, many geniuses (inventors, thinkers, etc) who do not have business skills live poor while creating more value than many CEOs that can manage, negotiate, raise funds, have connections, etc.
Business people do create value too by connecting people, making things happen, etc., but often their value output is overrated.
Many actors and musicians and sport peopl are overrated too vs doctors who save lives. They worth a lot only because of economy of scale. Everyone knows them and they monetize their followers.
In some way it is a fair world, because we all put in nearly about the same conditions. Well, except our place of birth and genetics, which we have no choice over. But everything else is up to us, which kind of makes it fair because we compete in the same conditions. However, maybe it is a time for a new system. Why not?
As far as the education, the nature will do its miracle. New generations will change everything, they will know what to do because they born in new world.
Everything will work out on its own as it should. It is happening.
Did StackOverflow agreed to offer the data or Google just took because they can?
Stackoverflow has their own query tool. Why would they give their data to Google?
"We need better languages for introductory computing. A good introductory language makes good compromises between expressiveness and performance, and between simplicity and feature-richness. Pyret is our evolving experiment in this space."
Object Pascal is the best language I know for education.
Programming education first must be about understansing algorithms I think.
However, learning something old or not useful in real world can be harmful. The best I think is to learn modern tech. The development world evolves too and other skills become more relevant.
With automation, robotics and AI the world does not need so many bio-robots anymore. Before we needed dumb people to do manual labor. Not anymore. Machines can do it. Most of people don't want to learn and change. What to do with the bio-mass that can only eat, shit and have fun?
You're forgetting about the mother nature's miracle work. Wait till you see some unknown genious from some god forgotten village far away from a civilization in an undeveloped country come up with a new break-through idea that will kick asses of all Sillicon Valleys in the world.
Our whole civilization leap frogged forward with the invention of the Internet. Because it connected us humans mentally. We able to share thoughts and ideas and have conversations with anyone on a planet without physical movement. It is a mechanical telepathy if you think about.
What we are seeing with implementing such laws is a more larger trend. Mental world is being taken under control by Mr. Smiths, agents of the matrix. Our thoughts and self-expressions more than ever are under the surveillance.
What I don't know is whether it is a good or bad thing in general for the mankind, but they way our technology worshipping civilizations develops it seems to be unavoidable. It seems we are way too far in this to go back.
As everything else, it takes step at a time... first they will record a website address, the people will calm down and get used to it, ISPs will implement the storage. Then they will find a reason to implement another law that will require to record what we do on the websites. There is no coming back. It will evolve as everything else humans touch.
