Ask HN: How do you protect your house from a powerful geomagnetic storm?

Aluminum foil actually works as an antenna to direct more of the bad stuff to it rather than away from it. A study done on the effectiveness of tin foil hats shows it brings more bad waves toward a person rather than shielding or blocking them.
Huge magnetic storms or even warfare weaponry like dew etc will not be phased by aluminum foil.
Best option is to look at materials used in aerospace/space travel. They deal w a lot of radioactive areas and need to be protected at all times.

Do you have any good reference where I can start digging more?
If I ever build a house, I will consider this, along with some conduit to install/upgrade a wireless repeater should I choose.
Agreed actually. I plan on building a new house in 15 years (playing the long game here), it will be concrete and a Faraday cage.
They also have whole house surge protectors too.
