I think it is somewhat bad that these guys feel comfortable boasting about how inefficient and slow their work is. New York City has the most expensive construction costs in the world, surely these guys’ inability to tunnel more than 10 feet of rock per day is one piece of the puzzle.

All 3d packages have confusing and complex UIs. Blender’s UI has improved significantly over the past few years - it is now around the middle of the pack. Users care much more about features and functionality.

This is specifically OpenTable reservations. On top of the pandemic, Resy has been gaining quite a lot of market share.

Powershell is not at all trash. Being object oriented makes it very easy to do on the fly inspection of your data and allows extremely powerful pipelining. If you want even more functionality, you can load in .NET libraries at runtime. Working with Powershell really feels like working with Python but using a different syntax.

Yes because they are what’s used in CG artwork pipelines. If you are scripting Blender, Houdini, Substance and so on you are using Python not JS.

The difference is that after a week of serious Photoshop training you will have at your fingertips a world class, incredibly powerful piece of software with modern ML tools for smart image manipulation, collaborative tools and cloud infrastructure for syncing documents, plus a massive ecosystem of plugins and assets available to purchase.

I say this as someone who strongly dislikes Photoshop. I wish I had a viable alternative.

Krita’s Python API should have everything you need to do this automatically.

Redesigning infrastructure always produces winners and losers. Slowing down traffic will always make someone’s commute longer. Unfortunately, making these decisions is hard but necessary, because the trade offs are worth it.

Gentrification is when a place becomes more desirable to live. It’s caused by people enjoying themselves. Gentrification is wealth creation. If housing prices rise too much, you can build more housing. It’s something to be desired, not avoided.

High performance Maya and Max plug-ins are written with C++ APIs. Blender doesn’t have a binary plugin API because of GPL.

From my outsider’s perspective as an American, Germany has always looked like a well functioning, stable nation. I see here a transition from slight right of center to slight left of center, and a corresponding policy shift that will place you at the vanguard of progressivism on drug policy. Nothing about this seems “fucked,” it seems very good and even impressive.

The police kill innocent people of all races in the US. Look up Tony Timpa. We have a police violence problem for sure. But we are still one of the least racist countries in the world.

I found salvia incredibly dysphoric. One friend was passed out on the couch incoherent for over two hours. Would not recommend to anyone.

If there was really “free money” in installing solar panels everyone would be doing it already.

Gimp should adopt the design language of its competitors Photoshop and Affinity Photo. Affinity largely looks and acts like a copy of PS when you open it up. That’s a good thing.

Also the name Gimp is really really terrible.

Apparently this was completely by mistake and is fixed now.

Being against artificial sweeteners is like being against vaping. Even if they cause some harm, the alternative is a massive danger, so we should still encourage people to switch.

Urban design catering almost exclusively to single family detached housing commuting exclusively by cars was not driven by individual preferences. It is the result of intentional choices made by urban planners in the 1950s and onward. Effectively, these lifestyles are highly subsidized. Only today are we seeing market forces and individual preferences take over as oppressive car-centric zoning policies are relaxed and urban cores revitalize.

Average rents indicate that Manhattan is once again the most highly desired place to live in the country, and for good reason.

It’s very easy: remove zoning restrictions and allow mixed use development. The natural organic state of cities is dense, mixed use, walkable and high efficiency, just like we see in all the oldest cities in the world. Artificial legal restrictions maintain our rigid system of suburbs and car focused transportation.
