I think this is a salient point people are missing. This incredible freedom is equal on both sides, just as how companies are able to spread that risk around with multiple employees, it is common these days to have multiple jobs just in case of a layoff or other notable event where your job is lost.

It's kind of similar how there is no such thing as "Americans". Basically every state is as diverse as it's own country!

Many here will say that that's the cost of the freedom of choice and speech in the US.

I struggle sometimes to accept this. This site has been fostering great, curious discussion thanks to everyone diligently following the posting guidelines. As such, if everyone was discussing curiously, how could one simply parrot propaganda? It's unfathomable, and worse, goes against the commenting guidelines.

Good faith isn't enough. I just reread some tweets, and there were multiple people who in completely good faith (from their point of view) were protecting their community by claiming everybody who took a vaccine would be dead by June 2026.

I wonder if this should be codified as a rule of thumb, or an unofficial "law"? One perhaps we can reference easily among our peers.

I understand completely. I have colleagues who have been denied promotions and bonuses due to their way of communicating, which was indeed pointing out esoteric and nuanced ways that their colleagues are wrong. There was a specific scenario were someone held a slightly incoherent opinion, yet somehow it was "wrong" to correct that opinion for the rest of the meeting.

In some ways, I feel like everyone should start by reading the HN guidelines as a way to structure their communication around.

Some HNers will unironically blame the Democrats.

I wonder about your last point. Certainly there's an aspect of education that Asia values more, however by the US own metrics, they are number 1 in terms of education outcomes.

I ended up writing my own layer over git for permissions for a specific client a long time ago. It has a huge amount of useful features - sadly, I never took the idea further.

Talking to my American colleagues, they're often perplexed by roundabouts and don't really understand how they fundamentally work. They're also incredibly stubborn when it comes to convincing them that it helps with traffic flow immensely versus a 4 way stop sign.

Which part of the title indicates that everyone walked out? I assumed it was merely some of the cohort.

Can you share any of these serious thinkers?

Curious how this trait is American? Is there something about the way Americans speak that is fake?

I have friends who work at both large and small companies, as well as startups, and more often than not this is the case. Surprisingly, those who work at a YC startup face the PIP quite regularly for not enough token usage.

> Is there still grammar police on the Internet, calling out people for making grammatical mistakes in their writing?

This is one of the last places on the internet that actually has grammar police, as commenters here have a desire to be technically correct in all aspects.

I spoke to a few HNers who I know flagged this post. They mentioned that they flagged it because it goes against the HN guidelines - a holy grail of sorts - and that the post does not invite "curious discussion". When prompted, they mentioned they would much rather read about pro-Musk technological exploits than anything against the US.

Why is this title not editorialized like others when it's ambiguous?

I wonder if a more "hardcore" team, by his words, would have handled this legal case better?
