Linus’ position is one of privilege and he’s an asshole. He’s saying that if you’re too poor to afford a wide screen then fuck you. That position works well for rich people, and is not something that should be tolerated in open source.
If you’re using grep on your source that much, you’re throwing away all of the benefit of modern compiler tools to provide symbol info.
