The actual reason is right at the top: he's a director who was "promoted" to IC.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Amazon values their stock grants as if it grows 15% every year. Obviously this is pretty optimistic and makes their offers not directly comparable to other companies that value their stock using current prices.

They're easily comparable because current prices incorporate all publicly available information (and even some non-public). If you accept the 15% assumption, you're letting them hoodwink you.

I read a history of the NSA recently [0], and what struck me is that every time the NSA's code-breaking techniques were invalidated, this was due to a US agent leaking secrets to adversaries. If the NSA cannot address every insider threat, why do we expect tech companies to be hermetically sealed?

Not true. At this point, some of them have jumped in and are cashing out. See, e.g., Silvio Micali [0].

When you type into the Safari address bar, it drops down a list of search results while you're typing. I am guessing this comes from the long-promised Apple search engine. It works well enough that I often find myself skipping the Google search results page altogether.

Are you claiming there's nothing illegal about Thiel buying his stake in PayPal for a nominal $1,700? There are two tax-law experts quoted in the article saying otherwise.

Big tech already has that in https://levels.fyi, which to my understanding is updated by their comp analysts (though they will not admit as such). Tech right now is a seller's market for labor, and so buyers comparing notes on prices is IMHO not in the worker's advantage. In fact, it's worth asking ourselves whether levels.f is turning into tech's new mechanism for collusion.

Managing people is the manager's job, not overhead.
