Grim numbers no matter how much you quibble with their presentation.
But WHY any increase in pedestrian deaths? Where is that discussed?
1. A aging set of drivers?
2. self-driving cars?
3. decaying road and sidewalk infrastructure?
4. daylight savings?
5. public transportation used by or available to fewer pedestrians?
The software priests who taught the MSCS courses I took did not teach these insights. No harm comes from studying the beautiful code of the ancients. But, indeed, less work gets done when you complicate your task with goals of beauty and future-proofing.
