SAP continues because they have a great sales team that makes execs feel like they are making a choice that never gets them fired. SAP doesnt care about UX and in the 10 or so years Ive dealt with it on the periphery, its been a barely serviceable product with a terrible user interface. I especially love how the localization is so sporadic in the application. Sure the front end will be mostly english, but be prepared for a lot of tables/columns/fields to be in German. Granted, its been a few years since Ive done much SAP related work(I build interfaces between trading systems and SAP for accounting and some logistics interfaces.)
Anyway, their goal is to move into new business verticals and not really fix the product. They are actually trying to move into the trading and risk management arena in which I work. So far they have one major client that I'm aware of and they are struggling to make it work.
Yes! I get insurance quote email that is so blatantly obviously spam that it made me think that there is either a bug in the spam filter or it’s something more insidious. It’s been happening for a while and training Gmail to filter it isn’t working.

I think they only stopped short of saying her name starts with a K and rhymes with "Aaron". My knee jerk reaction is why do people move somewhere and immediately try to change a place to their set of values? Are they just fundamentally unhappy people?
Despite what seems like an over-reaction from this person this sort of struggle with cars is nothing new especially in Texas. The Cars And Coffee thing is pretty big down here, and while I do love cars I have mixed feelings about C&C for a few reasons. Typically you have a subset of the group that does engage in very dangerous maneuvers on public roads. There are enough youtube videos of people doing dumb things in cars going badly that Im sure most of you are aware of it. Typically its more of an age related than race related problem as young kids and cars with 3-800 horsepower are a recipe for trouble. I dont really go to C&C events for this reason.
EDIT TO MAKE MORE CLEAR-
This seems to be aimed more at the the people complaining about slab/lowrider/people of color car culture. Those folks should be called out (the Karens for the sake of bevity). That should not be conflated, however, with people doing burnouts and other dumb things with cars. This is anti social behavior and should be policed if it is out of control. Of course the archetype that is discussed in this article is known for blowing things out of proportion, so without actually having been there who knows. I personally love how Texas can be such a melting pot with rich culture from all walks of life and there is very real concern about how the great migration from California will pan out.
That is a great point and I agree. Its easy for the JRE "Its just a hang for a couple hours" to make it seem like he is just talking on the fly. Some times the curtain gets pulled back and people pull out and mention their notes on the show. I could definitely tell there were some bullet points that John was trying to cover, and Im sure these are topics hes covered in front of audiences when he gives lectures/appearances. But there is a fluidity to his responses that suggest he does indeed have a great talent for conveying complicated subjects with ease.
While I'm sure that buried in the TOS you can be banned at any time for any reason, and the sheer volume of apps they referee makes things difficult to have humans manage. The "right" thing to do here would be to at least provide some sort of substantiation of your assertion that it violates policy.
-App is asking for more permissions than it needs
-App is violating privacy
-App is direct copy of/ mimicking Core OS functionality
-App is using non opensource code
etc.
They obfuscation of the reasons for the ban seem to me to be one of the following
1) laziness
2) malice
3) fear that it would somehow expose the methodology for finding the policy violations and create a cat and mouse game.
It seems like mobile development is becoming less and less an attractive platform to spend my cycles. There are basically 2 markets with millions of apps that already implement your idea in some form or fashion that are free or cheap. Meanwhile being a Luddite and writing enterprise code for business has consistently paid more each year I've done it.
John is like many of the people Ive met that have no problem conveying a lot of dense information quickly and easily and avoiding speech patterns that are overly technical and difficult to understand. Some of the most intelligent people I know are able to do that. That is a very underrated skill that I wish I had. I forever stumble on words when Im explaining something complicated/technical. Its like a cognitive dissonance that I am fighting between saying technical jargon and dumb-ing down to layman's terms. Im sure being on the other end of that it is perceived as condescending or just that I dont know what Im talking about.
I love everything about my hexacore 32gb MacBook Pro... except the keyboard. In fact I rarely use my MacBook now because the keyboard is so infuriatingly bad. I have a 2014 model that I let my kids use and it’s vastly better to type on.
It took me a second to parse what you were saying. Essentially since it’s 2.2LBS per kg the first divide gets you the number on both sides of the decimal. Very cool
Shazam is one of those apps that has truly changed my life. I still remember as a teenager times where I heard a song on the radio or a mix show and missed the name of it. I have purchased entire albums thinking they had a song I liked and have been WRONG. Now I can let my phone figure it out over a noisy background like a bar or restaurant and it still knows what song I am tagging. This app is one that truly feels like magic. Even almost a facade later.
I deactivated/deleted my FB account in 2010. I've thought that I may try to open it back up in 2020 just as a self created "time capsule" of my life. Unfortunately my life circumstances around that time were not fantastic. Mid divorce and lots of shade thrown by the wife in my direction. Even 7 years out, I dont like to think about that time, dont know if I will be ready in 3 more years.
