Top-tier hedge funds are always looking for PhDs with engineering background, it’s a great combo of doing original research and being able to productionalize it

Looks interesting, ordered one for myself. As other commenters pointed out, I also enjoy building things by myself and there are already plenty of resources out there to keep improving on that front. However, at some point you realize that some if not most projects are bigger than yourself and you’ll need to work in a team. Not to mention it’s also more fun to work with other people where everyone can find their place to shine. With that come politics, processes, and management. And if your project is extremely interesting and attracts lots of folks, you’ll have to learn “the ways” to make sure you still get to keep working on the project. Thanks for a new addition to my shelf!

It’s not digital nomads that pack up WeWorks, it’s actual Mexican office workers. Foreigners actually are pretty rare to the point that in some locations security doesn’t even know that you can access with your own membership and ask you “Which company are you with?”

I suspect it’s popular because there isn’t really anything better out. WeWork figured out operations and culture of running a productive office space and it’s probably worth it for business to just rent this infra. If WeWork shuts down, someone will definitely come in and acquire all these

I’ve taken CS162 (operating systems) a while back at UC Berkeley and that along with networking, CS168, were my favorite classes. And they probably were the most useful going into the industry as well, so I highly recommend that you dig in even if you don’t find folks to study with. Makes me wonder if someone already created a service to match study groups for open content classes from top universities like this

Here in Mexico WeWork is extremely popular. Both in Mexico City and Monterrey all locations are most of the days packed with both corporate subscriptions and desk clients like myself. They own/rent entire skyscrapers with floors subrented by local companies

Currently have some free time between jobs to explore what actually makes me passionate, so threads like this are really useful to get inspired!

Been starting various projects to quickly figure out what I like and don’t like. Realized that I miss working on highly technical projects after working on consumer apps for a couple of years. So as a result been revamping my resume and planning my next steps in my software engineering career. There are some really cool companies out there in the space of databases and distributed systems.

As part of scouting for jobs built some little tools with help of LLMs to tailor my resume to job positions.

Also, rediscovered that I enjoy solving little algorithm problems after practicing with LeetCode. ChatGPT makes as if I have my own tutor to explain and hint when necessary, reminded me of university and study groups.
