You could always go to the office by yourself (or a coworking spot, or really anywhere) if the point is just changing your environment and you don’t need to bug others. Everyone gets to be happy and productive, no mandatory RTO needed.

Typically you’d get that sort of thing at a quarterly report if it was actually material to the performance of the company and they had actual data. Otherwise it’s just a normal thing as far as I know to support an argument with data if you have it.

If they checked the numbers and it showed that they’d be shouting from the rooftops, not trying to prevent anyone from discussing it.

The vape pen is the one object that contains within it the trajectories and tensions that defines the modern world, really? Even if you're trying to illustrate an overall point about how irredeemably evil contemporary capitalism is, surely the cell phone is a better example..

If you get to a capacitor, you've gone too far - you may be in a power supply.

I think there is a sweet spot where if you're junior on the cusp of intermediate it can help you because you know enough to reject the nonsense, but it can point you in the right direction. Similar to if you need to implement a small feature in a language you don't know, but basically know what needs to get done.

I've definitely seen juniors just keep refining the garbage until it manages to pass a build and then try to merge it, though, and using it that way just sort of makes you a worse programmer because you don't learn anything and it just makes you more dependent on the bot. Companies without good code reviews are just going to pile this garbage on top of garbage.

Because the people who buy them don’t think it’s terrible, or at least not enough of a problem to get them to not buy them. And anyway it’s subjective, it’s a form with tropes and some people just love a game (or movie, or tv show) that delivers on that even if it’s “bad writing.” And there’s nothing wrong with that.

I’d love a book like Founding Sales, which was excellent and taught me as a developer how to sell, but focused on marketing instead. And maybe product-led growth rather than a sales cycle.

I finally tried it and as a new member literally every recommended post was US culture wars stuff. Is that the normal experience, or am I getting some kind of bias based on who I received an invite from?

It’s a combination of cargo culting (nobody ever got fired for using Scrum!) and consultants who use it as a form of leverage to extract billable hours from their clients.

I didn’t push back or complain, but I don’t really get the victory they think they achieved there. Definitely nothing that helped an actual living person improve their life - donating the equivalent in salary spent working on the change to local families would have been more effective at making the world a better place imho. There were no theoretically impacted people championing or asking for the change. It was just some people looking for something to do, and they even had a celebration at the end like they really achieved something.

I think the idea was that capitalism was at fault, so we should go back to whatever variant of the system Boeing operated under when there were less failures. Or else I’m not sure why their conclusion would be that the fix would be to reel in capitalism.

I could sort of see that, though I think authoritarian does a fine job of saying the same thing. But to say the communist party of the Soviet Union wasn't communist, that they used the word communism to make communism/themselves look bad? Thats hard to even follow the logic.

Your position is the state communist party of the Soviet Union wasn't communist, they were fascist, but they called themselves communist to make communism look bad? These guys? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ideology_of_the_Communist_Part...

All anyone who espouses communism can ever seem to reliably produce is a never-ending dictatorship of the proletariat (which always seems to be run by people who strangely look like the bourgeoisie) and I don't think that should count for much, if anything. It's not just a dead end, it's a well documented dead end with body counts totaling in the millions.

I think others are just saying it's possible even without the side by side, but no harm in including it for those who can't see it.

Probably Obamists, along the lines of Trumpists, Stalinists, Maoists, etc.
