They're mostly out-of-touch since they're isolated from the reality of everyday hardships and believe they're entitled to wealth extraction, what do they care? They don't care about the janitor at a subsidiary making $11/hr and living in their car when they could afford $18.
Poor rich, rent-seeking property owners being abused by actual poor people who have no choice, no assets, and income reduced or eliminated by a global pandemic.
This is a cherry-picked example to demonize the poor and demand evictions in the name of profit.
The homeless and very poor rationally should demand housing.
I question the veracity of this article from its source, but some people do dumb things in divorces. Divorce, beyond social and psychological trauma, itself is a windfall for lawyers and destroys balance sheet worth and living expense efficiencies of both parties.
- Don't even think about living with someone without a palnup.
- Prenup that supersedes most community property.
- Only get married to have kids with someone you've know for years, e.g., don't marry crazy, unmotivated, unhelpful, unsupportive, easily-offended, immature, dramatic, hopeless, insecure, narcissistic, dramatic, addictions (screens, video games, substances, gambling, cheating, stealing, lying, etc.) and/or irrational people at random you just met a month ago.
- Put in the work in marriage.
- Set expectations that the honeymoon phase will wear off.
- Choose your battles.
- Disagree without making it personal.
- Keep money and sex rolling in.
- Communicate what's vital with integrity, i.e., honesty, courage, and empathy.
Tragedy of the Commons like recycling contamination, opt-in vaccination, littering, or well water depletion. Asking a group of Americans to what's necessary never works because they don't care, are too clueless, too self-absorbed, or too dumb to follow directions. If it were Japan or Singapore, we wouldn't even have this discussion. American "excellence" in failure.
Spotter planes, tankers, and more spotter planes flying NOE have to maintain visual air sep while also not CFITing. It's dangerous AF to run daytime ops at night because YCSS even with NVGs.
The article missed the big picture: it's all about tribalism through shared, wacky beliefs like conspiracy theories. QAnon, "microchipping" vaccines, the Big Lie, flat earth, etc. What the pandemic proves is at least 50% of fellow Americans are gullible, inconsiderate morons.
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." - George Carlin
Official death count isn't the only metric worth looking at. It's also worth investigating the 42.6% of children suffer from noticeable, and possibly even more silent, "long COVID" with permanent tissue injuries from mild illness. Such a potential lingering injury burden could turn-out to be extremely costly.
I would posit increased population, shift to cities, fewer close friends, less family relationships, less community, declining interdependency, lower standards of living, and less hope for the future all contribute to depression and so cognitive distortions.
You can have all the individualism you want, so long as you don't step on other people's toes.
I really hate America's culture because it's so shallow, self-absorbed, anti-intellectual, "might makes right," inconsistently puritanical, and ignorant.
This describes the vast majority of neighbors in my apartment building. They act like high school students, lack self-control or consideration for others, litter, and steal. And, they're supposed "college educated."
