Nice!

Would be really nice to have links to director's picks. Eg I clicked on Che, saw that it was in Denis Villeneuve's list, and wanted to check out his other picks.

What is the most interesting part of what happens?

I find your line of thought interesting but I’m not sure where you’re leading it.

Yeah, this seems like a textbook case where one could apply Jevons Paradox.

> Also avoid their object store.

Curious as to why you say this. I’m using litestream to backup to Hetzner object storage, and it’s been working well so far.

I guess itt’s probably more expensive than just a storage box?

Not sure but I also don’t have to set up cron jobs and the like.

Is a framework desktop with >48GB of RAM a good machine to try this out?

For me it’s org-mode. Although now that I think of it, there’s a Neovim implementation I’ve been meaning to try.

Have you tried it? I’ve been meaning to.

> there are at least a dozen companies that provide non-Anthropic/non-OpenAI models in the cloud

Do you have some links?

Also I assume the privacy implications are vastly different compared to running locally?

I think you’re wrong, especially if you consider more the just carbon (eg land use, deforestation, …) https://woods.stanford.edu/news/meats-environmental-impact

> On its stern, researchers were shocked to find extensive remains of a castle, a kind of covered deck where the crew would have sought shelter. Records show that castles were distinctive features of medieval cogs, but no physical evidence of them had previously been identified.

I suppose this explains why the thing that exists on more modern ships is called a “forecastle”.

PS go check the pronunciation for that word as it’s quite surprising.

Really happy about how things are going for you, and the positive impact this is having on your family!

It’s good to get some good news sometimes. Thanks for that :)

From my quick research, it seems like people in the sailing community actually prefer Windy.com to Windy.app. (yes, there's a very confusing name clash)

Is it “set up the page” or “set the page up”? Or both?

Oh wow, I got completely confused by this usage, and thought it meant 3 to 4 kilograms :)
