Some may not want to hear this, but these “fastest supercomputer” list is now meaningless because all the Chinese labs have started obfuscating their progress.
A while ago there were a few labs in China in top 10 and they all attracted sanctions / bad attention. Now no Chinese lab report any data now
Because it’s no longer socially acceptable. You should look up the history of dogwhistles about Jewish ownership of banks and financial firms. It usually seems harmless, ex: “hey isn’t this owned by a Jewish person?” which masquerades the deep antisemitistic insinuation that Jews are taking over banking and media
This seems it will be applied to self driving technology in a huge way.
All of these companies doing advanced AI vision detection, classification etc... they’re really hard problems. But the whole challenge will eventually become nullified when every single road sign, landmark, and the road itself are tagged internally with metadata.
Instead of trying to decipher how does this PNG of a speed limit sign translate into a number, the number metadata would be encoded in the sign.
Looking at it this way, having advanced vision AI tech is only a competitive advantage in the short term
Headline sounds propaganda-ish. This is a normal regulatory move to break up monopoly in its one market, instead it’s made to sound like “big bad gov bully’s little guys”
Imagine a headline “Zuckerberg Agrees to Shrink His Business Empire, Bowing to US Pressure.” Does that sound like a natural headline a reasonable reporter would write?

Same. What I want out of every communication product is the same: reliable, boring, and get out of my way. Humans innately know how to communicate with each other. They know how to make jokes, get info across, make hints, etc. we don’t need technology for the content of the communication
We need the transportation. Make it reliable, fast, and non interfering. That’s it. That’s why Zoom rocks. It just works
I moved to a Midwestern city and wake up at around 11am, just in time for my 9am (SF time) meeting lol. I chat w colleagues constantly on zoom and get off after 5 hrs.
Of course I got my SO to keep company so it’s never boring. I suspect all the mental health issues we’ve been seeing in the pandemic have been from single or more extraverted folks
But for introverts who are already in stable relationship, I love the “isolation”!
