I am on-and-off conversing with the team at meetter ever since we started using it for some of our meetings. They are very responsive and helpful.

The concept is solid but it takes a cultural shift which can be hard. I am all for less but better meetings and condensing the schedules.

If someone would ask me to describe what meetter is I would say "An automated team assistant that tries to make sure that all topics of your org can get focused meeting time in one or multiple big blocks"

"Good" orgs will push for a commitment that everyone is available at the _same_ time slots, say 2 hours every Mon, Wed, Fri. Meetter (and well created topics) will do the rest and nobody needs to juggle.

Prerequisite is having enough meeting spaces or being more remote as the number of _parallel_ sessions (formerly called breakouts) is dynamic.

Edit: also the slack integration is great, makes creating topics a breeze and helps transparency.

I have been in the same situation and I observed it happens more often when discussing with non-technical team members. What I think is happening here is that I forget how "business people" can have different knowledge and beliefs than I do. Assuming good intentions, it might be just lack of information on both sides that make us hold back and assume "they are probably on the right track". And IMHO that is good news because there are many possible paths to address this common issue.

I don't know the particular situation in Croatia when it comes to how it cross-finances private healthcare but I would assume that this patient was billed for everything they recieved accordingly and not directly subsidized.

Of course there are indirect/externalized cost like the the health worker education system, potentially having hospitals and their equippment set up not to maximize profit but for coverage in the population etc. which this patient now may be freeloading on.

There is another perspective though if you consider free movement of labor in the EU (and to some extent globally for highly educated individuals) and the comparatively low salaries for medical professionals in Croatia and other cost-saving medical travel destinations (Hungary, Poland, Thailand, Mexico and others). If the doctors in the country can make an attractive buck on the side doing private practice then this alleviates the pressure to some extent. Especially if it allows the more senior doctors to stay in country and thus continue to train the next generation in med schools and the facilities.

Now I don't have a source to back it up but my feeling tells me that it is a net-positive activity for the destination countries. Depending on the scale of business, the foreign money might buy a new machine that other patients can use as well or quality improvements via the international certifications and accreditations.

That is not guarantee against potentially canibalising the local social system and could in worst cases lead to a two-class system so i suppose an adequate system to regulate access and subsidize for social fairness is in place where private and public seem equally "healthy".

Performance and, to a much lesser extent, accountability are not the easiest topics in software engineering outside of strict waterfall. Still, awareness of these is critical for teams.

In that particular example that you are replying to I would go a few "why" steps deeper though. Why are they not motivated enough by their work maybe? Are they not aware maybe how a higher than "normal" engaging in distracting activities will hinder their development and ultimately their career?

Slacking off once in a while is perfectly normal. It is rare to find the perfect situation of engineer's brains being constantly on fire, churning out great solutions because they are so motivated, in the right place at the right time being asked to and capable to do the right thing in the right way. No manager can make their team get closer to that nirvana alone - It needs a good environment but most of all an intact network of trust inside the team and the openness to speak about lack of motivation or other issues and trying to tackle it together.

Imho it is your task to help them become aware (calling out and other methods), reflect on the issues and gain the confidence that a change can be made that benefits them.

Maybe I read a different text than you but I have yet to encounter a scenario in which a user would consent to processing that the law still would not allow. Assuming the consent was gathered according to the basic principles of GDPR, fair, transparent, specific etc.

Maybe I am missing something. Would you provide examples? I would be very glad to learn if there are edge cases I may be overlooking.

Please share your criticism. I would be happy to get as much perspective on the topic as possible.

The problem I encountered was having, or the notion of wanting, a product roadmap which is produced from stakeholder, C-level, product- and IT team input parallel to OKRs. I feel this is an anti pattern. You have OKRs and they make your quarterly roadmap or you don't apply OKRs at all to the producing team.

We are having a 20% time at my company (Medigo) since almost 5 years. Though the effects are hard to prove I see these:

  - obviously great for hiring
  - as we are not in a position to offer super advanced technical projects to tinker around with, it may have helped retention in a few cases, maybe general
  - one side project made it into a successful in-house product
  - it is sometimes a useful gap-filler if a project/backlog is not ready enough to start or too crowded on the dev side (a rare problem, ha!)

The biggest advantage though I feel is that it frees from hierarchy, planning and (most) coordination needs. Agile or not, the overheads are real. Developers often "know" at the back of their head what is the right thing to do. Let them do it. 20% is great for learning responsible autonomy.

Slightly OT but I wonder what the readers of this thread have experienced with this model and how acceptance in the wider company was handled.
