As a European: Absolutely not. Never, will not comply, will do everything in my hacking power to not be subjected to this.

This is invasive, the others like Lane "assist" is just outright dangerous. Yanking my steering wheel while I'm driving? WTF? The lines on the road, in many EU cities, are mere suggestions. Especially during road works. I've had two times where I almost killed the bicyclist because the STUPID KIA SPORTAGE thought it knew better.

And now I'm filmed during driving? No. NO!

I made 2 Raspberry Pi5 NAS's. one with 4x 6TB and one with 4x 12TB.

Used mergerfs and snapraid, and a simple NFS share. Absolutely perfect for Proxmox backups, our pictures, media, etc, etc. No fuss, easy replacement of drives without needing to keep drives of the same size around.

I'm good with ZFS, have been for years now managing storage for $COMPANY. And I still freaking love using zfs send/receive with proxmox ;-)

But for most at home stuff: mergerfs and snapraid are just more logical.

I understand where you are going with this, but it also feels incorrect to me to blame people innocently "buying" media from a $corporation.

What are people to do if they want to stay on the non-pirate/legal side of this but also prevent being royally F-ed?

You just cannot make this up. The onion is going out of business this way.

I'd love to pay for this service, I really do. But I can't. Since it's American, and me and my team have vowed to not use American for new projects, and wean other parts off and away from USA tech and services.

There is a clear open market in the EU for such a service.

Do you use an adblocker? If so, how could you know that you do not need all those things they offer in the ads?

A bit tongue in cheek, I know, but a nice comparison I think. If the value is true, it will come to me soon enough without it needing to be pushed in my face every second (AI in notepad for instance, or via a completely unneeded extra keyboard button)

In fact, I see a great need for AI in medical science, security research. But not as a tool to "create art"... (Don't make me ~~puke~~ laugh.) Or as a replacement for human interaction with my insurance company.

> similar to how quite a lot of the most technical users in the 80's thought GUI's were a waste of time

Well... They are! ;-) (It's a joke, but at the same time, I do see a terminal resurgence the past few years)

Analogy:

People that like AI are like children watching a magician and are completely hooked and in "awe". They see MAGIC!

Then there are people who see the slight of hand, the misdirection, the plain "being lied to" of the performance. They see the whole picture and can no longer "enjoy" the magic.

AI can be fantastic, there are just to many downsides (we are forced to use it, usage of land, electricity, water, money, other resources, being lied about things, lay-offs, investments that just don't make sense.... etc, etc.)

I hope, I really do, that things will change. And I hope we do not destroy everything we hold dear in the pursuit of "AI everything".

Seeing how we are responding to AI or the copilot button on pc's... I _dare_ to suggest this "Agentic era" is nothing more then wishful thinking. Not supported by any real wish or need on the consumer side.

Well, at least for me: no thanks.

Teens will find a way. So yeah, it doesn't work. But... Blanket banning and outlawing the likes of Meta, Google, , TikTok, etc. Well, now where talking!

You probably do agree that this should not be normal. And not the expected way to get your money back? There is no blocklist option at my bank, so I'd have to do that every month in perpetuity?

Simply because I cannot login and cancel my account?

side note, these are things I feel should be: 1. Illegal: "noreply@" addresses. My inbox is not a dumping ground and email is two way, not one way. 2. Required: phone numbers on you website, easily found, that are picked up by humans.

Remarkable means subscription. And I *DO NOT* want that. If this could support self hosted stuff like Nextcloud or something? Or a simple shared folder?

RSS or Pocket client?

But no, nothing, just the subscription stuff. So it's a no from me.

I do not think the value difference is $100 ;-) In fact, the longer you use it, the more money they can make off of you. (In that sense, that $200 is already WAY too expensive to start ;-) )

So yeah, reversing this would make the most sense. The default is: local data only and not connected. They need to pay me to get data.

Just like car companies, phones, etc, should be forced to do that as well.

It will change once they realize they are a IT company first and a car manufacturer second. Whether they agree or not this is their future.

I ask the person behind me if they would mind me reclining. They've never said no, and both parties now feel better. I'm not "intruding" in their personal space as much, since I asked.

I wish people would talk to each other more.

On the one hand, I'm like: so what, I got no skin in this game... But then again, they will most assuredly get community-money bail outs.

And _also_ raise prices on GPU's.

As an Enterprise user of Rancher, we had long discussions with Suse about Longhorn. And we are not using it.

You need a separate storage lan, a seriously beafy one at to use Longhorn. But even 25Gbit was not enough to keep volumes from being corrupted.

When rebuilds take too long, longhorn fails, crashes, hangs, etc, etc.

We will never make the mistake of using Longhorn again.

As the product offering has changed after purchase. Would this not be grounds for returning the product for a full refund?
