Under their military rules, they have an obligation to disregard illegal orders. This war was not declared by congress. It is illegal and unconstitutional. They are chosing to do this and are thus complicit.

I spent days and days inside the STAR control room in grad school, often during the 12:30am-7:30am graveyard shift. We needed to run 24/7 for efficiency reasons during the experimental season. Getting superconductors down to temp is costly, so once you get it there, it is go time all the time.

You had to stay on top of all the detectors and triggers, since every minute of beam time cost around $1k. You often sat around doing little, probably working on other research, and then would need to drop everything to reboot a detector so we could get back to collecting data.

RHIC is dead. Long live eRHIC.

Isreal has slaughtered over 60 thousand Palistinians. Israel is purposefully starving the rest. Israel uses desperate people searching for food as target practice as testified to by contractors working along side them.

But, apparently Israel holds no accountability or agency for this rampant slaughter.

I encourage you to read the quotes from Israeli political and social leaders in this piece: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/jun/27/israel...

> “The Gaza Strip should be flattened, and for all of them there is but one sentence, and that is death,” Yitzhak Kroizer, a member of national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s far-right Otzma Yehudit party, said in a radio interview.

Yitzhak is a current sitting member of the Knesset.

Such as the US secretary of "defense", Pete Hegseth, who has the Latin phrase for "god wills it" tattooed on his bicep. A phrase that is also the motto of the first crusade.

What you are saying is the fantastical kool-aid Fox News and alt-right media spin to you.

In the meantime, Trump is actually deporting people without due process to inhumane torture camps run by a dictator while openly bragging about it and defying court orders.

These two things are not the same.

I was there during the onavo scandal. It was straight up spyware. They would regularly show graphs of snapchat usage vs messenger vs whatsapp and the snapchat data was explicitly attributed to onovo logs.

I submitted it as a post this week. It survived for about 3 minutes before being flagged as a dupe and then deleted without any link to the conversation it was supposedly a dupe of. I did some cursory searching and could not find another conversation.

Wait, hacker news is a single source that comes to definitive group conclusions? Where can I find these beliefs we all collective hold and adhere to written down?

There's a huge difference between saying, "LGBT people are people," and "LBGT people should be shunned out of existence." Words have meanings.

In the middle of the article this is literally the discussion about, it literally has a chart showing that young women earn 93% of what young men do when looking across all metro areas in the US.

I'd hardly call the 102% ratio in NYC "more" in this context.

In NYC, young women earn 102% of what young men do. While that is technically more, I would count it as equal.

"Several" is doing some very heavy lifting here. According to the paper cited, it's 22 out of 250 metro areas (or 9%).

Another way to put this is that in the vast majority of metro areas, young women DO NOT earn more than young men. Even when you look at the areas where young women do outearn young men, it is not by a lot. For example, in the NYC area, young women earn 102% of what young men do. To my ear, that's parity.

Agreed! I have a keyboard full of OS-level macros and I've rebound the extra buttons on my mouse to ctrl+c, ctrl+v, and enter. If I'm leaning back and browsing through docs, I want to be able to move text around and execute commands without reaching for the keyboard.
