For all us Silmarillion fans, we win again! :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E%C3%A4rendil_and_Elwing

"Tolkien took Eärendil's name from the Old English name Earendel, found in the poem Crist 1, which hailed him as "brightest of angels"; this was the beginning of Tolkien's Middle-earth mythology."

I've never seen the ones from the ground, truly an apocalyptic sight if I've ever seen one. I can't imagine what it would be the to be person actually taking that shot. I bet they are forever changed. Thank you for posting! a welcome change if only for a minute from the deluge of openAI posts.

I'm actually thinking of installing a Mr. Cool mini split myself. The kick with those specifically is that you don't have to do the refrigerant part, which is the hardest bit as they come pre-charged. You only really need to do the electrical part, and if you have a 30amp socket then you are really in DIY land, otherwise it's a fairly simple job for an electrician to bang out. Maybe there are more brands that come pre-charged, the Mr.cool was just the one I was looking at because you can order them from Home depot which makes thing easier.

This is a heartfelt posts and it resonates well across cultures. For me it made me think of the works of Shmuel Yosef Agnon, many of his protagonists were Jews in exile in the 19th and early 20th century and they dealt with similar challenges and a constant sense of longing for something that was lost to them and they could never get away from.

The easy part in providing the model with enough context about your existing portfolio etc.. the challenge is about understanding your goals and optimizing towards them in the long run in terms of expenses (ongoing and then things like house, saving for kids), investing (portfolio mix, asset allocation, access to alternatives) and tax strategies. A model can do a good job on each one of those vectors separately. Whether it can do so holistically on all vs. a human professional (who's good at his job + has access to models) I think is a much harder question. This ofc becomes much more true if you are dealing with a complex portfolio, or longer time horizons. Hope this adds something to the convo.

this is fun! even for casual users. I searched "James Webb" and got 'James Webb Space Telescope: data, problems, and resolution A. D. Dolgov · 2023 · 1 cites' as my first result, but clicking it didn't do anything - I expected it to either zoom into or see the article contents. Was I doing something wrong? (Chrome, OSX).

I don't know the exact rhyme or reason behind it, buy randomizing a vase creates the spookiest creations for me! I'd actually love to know why that is. In general, it's interesting to think what makes for a good vase math-wise. Cool project!

This is pretty nice. My preference as a heavy claude vscode user would be to have this integrated into the chat widget itself. Right now I use the / command to check the usage periodically, but a little gage/indicator built straight into the chat window frame is something i would install in a heartbeat. Hope this helps and good luck!

'Simple" comes from the word "simplex" meaning "one fold". As opposed to "complex" which means "many folds".' - This one I'm gonna remember!

I've always wondered why the Robo mops have lagged so far behind the vacs, to the point that wirecutter (at least as of last year) wouldn't even recommend one. You'd think they'd be on par by now even with the added complexity of water. Pool robots deal with that quite well.
