I have the X4 and the X3 (newer smaller one). I will get whatever the next version is if it has a backlight or more DPI / support for smaller font.

X4 is great - has usb-c charger and with the cover feels like an easy to pocket and bring everywhere reader. Does not fit on the back of an iphone. I assume the magnet layout works with popular android phones though.

X3 is also great, actually fits on the back of the phone with the magsafe - magnet is a _bit_ too weak. It does fall off in my pocket frequently but I haven't lost it yet. Does not have usb-c - has weird little magnetic 4 pin charger.

I will gift my X4 to my brother once I've loaded some more content to it.

I recommend this for anyone that wants to save web novels for offline reading https://github.com/lncrawl/lightnovel-crawler - Calibre will sync the epubs to the x4 and x3.

Use the crosspoint OS https://github.com/crosspoint-reader/crosspoint-reader

All that said... I do still use my kindle as default. More content accessible more easily, better syncing, backlight

Easy to see how a North Star (aligned with mission or not) may have shifted this over time. “Hours listened” as a metric. I’ll be interested to read this and see if you mention measuring the rights things as a way to stay on mission.

I believe it is a type of burnout. AI might have accelerated both the work and that feeling.

I found that doing more physical projects helped me. Large woodworking, home improvement, projects. Built-in bookshelves, a huge butcher block bar top (with 24+ hours of mindlessly sanding), rolling workbenches, and lots of cabinets. Learning and trying to master a new skill, using new design software, filling the garage with tools...

I've owned a few F-150s over the last 20is years. It has the best fold up seats of any truck - entire back cabin floor is flat which is great for my dogs.

I rented a lightning on Turo and it was amazing - planned on getting one as my next truck. I would drive a CT depending on price but they just draw too much attention.

Not to discount the impact of foreign powers over social media but maybe don't spread this misinformation.

Lots of threads in here saying this is just a "legal" protection move...

I'd like to believe that most actual people want to protect kids.

It's easy to write off corporations and forget that they are founded by real people and employ real people... some with kids of their own or with nieces or nephews etc, and some of them probably do really care.

Not saying character.ai is driven by that but I imagine the times they've been in the news were genuinely hard times to be working there...

The Ring app notification summaries still scare me.

> "A bunch of people right outside your house!!!"

because it aggregates multiple single person walking by notifications that way...

In a keyboard format? Something running a simple OS that doesn't link you or your family identity and data straight into Google?

Something a less technical parent can wire up in the family room from a trusted brand without having to do a ton of research for not only reputable brands but also vendors on amazon?

Educational mission aside this is a good alternative to a chromebook.

Yep, sick to my stomach. Added a bunch of new mute words on x.

I haven't done any php development in maybe 10 years but this landing page almost got me to spin up a hello world.

I like the elephant frankenstein character - goofy and ugly/cute. Design, color scheme, copy, and animations are clean :chefkiss:

The value prop is well highlighted - at least for someone that's been out of php dev for a while. This seems like a nice way to bootstrap something small. Getting started code snippet makes it seem quick and easy.

All of this should be hammered out in a set of guidelines around code review so that ego/feelings don't need to come into play. Have style guides, code review checklists, and best practices documented.

The actual words used should be determined by the goal of code review and the relationship between reviewers.

Anything that can possibly be automated by CI should be. Style guide and test coverage should automatically fail PRs before a human needs to add any "nit"

That means code review should be a teaching or question moment (between a senior and junior, newer and veteran) or a discussion between peers.

From a junior to a senior -> why did you extract this? why didn't you do it this way?

From a senior to a junior -> typically, I would extract this because X. Check our best practices doc for a longer explanation.

Between peers or senior/junior (maybe one is newer) -> it isn't in our coding best practices document, but normally we extract this because X

Between peers -> what do you think about extracting this because X? Should this be in the coding best practices document?

The last is important because ideally you're updating your coding guide so this same review doesn't need to be done 10 times. And, if you don't think it should be documented as a best practice then don't bring it up in a review.

I'd suspect a competitor flagged your app somehow. This seems to be a trending dark pattern. Across a lot of competitive platforms - Amazon Sellers, App Store, Play Store - even social media people are flagging content as abusive to hurt competing brands.

Since normal support channels don't work, maybe report this to a bug bounty - this would be considered a type of social hack, right? Someone or something convinced their app review system to flag your apps and eventually have them removed.

I am pretty sure this policy alone is keeping the lights on for this particular company. It is a serious bummer the way apple handles it through the apple stores.

Apple is replacing these keyboards for free...

https://support.apple.com/en-ca/keyboard-service-program-for...

I get that it is hugely inconvenient to go without your laptop for any amount of time - I depend on mine for work at a 2 person startup, so really I do get it! But if you are this fed up with it, then I'd say go for it.

I finally bit the bullet and found a local certified apple repair place (NOT THE APPLE STORE) that allowed me to take my laptop home with me after they ran diagnostics (10 minutes) and ordered the new keyboard.

I emphasize not the apple store because they will try to keep your laptop for the 24-48 hours it takes your replacement keyboard to ship.

The repair actually took around 3 hours, which I spent playing with my kid! Woot! The place I went through text me when the keyboard came in and then again when my laptop was ready to go - was super easy.

Because of the way the keyboard is bundled into the laptop, they have to replace the battery too - so that was an added bonus.

edit - just want to add that the replacement has had no issues ~1 month in (++spelling)
