What I don't get is where is the Mac Mini Neo at like $350? Neos tiny motherboard in a box with some more ports would be awesome.

There's an ok documentary on a similar situation (A10 Thunder II) on curiosity stream and it explains how politics basically causes problems like this.

Dont most disks have write protection? Would that not be sufficient?

Thing is the idtech (Quake) engines power basically everything, so having them on the same branch of your company that does games that use this engine is something powerful. That said I think idtech was anti-microsoft in that it was based on non-DirectX tech from the get-go. Either way, big loss here, was hoping to see a new cutting-edge Doom or Quake game come out in 2026/7

Asus rog 13 128gb is still sub $3k last I checked and ticks the boxes. If you get tired of AI it's a kick ass tablet except the weight and can run AAA games for now decently enough.

I was hoping for an offline open map with specifically tracking (My tracks from Google or now 3rd party) so I can log my adventures. bonus if I can save a printable thing for my wall or something...guess I know what this weekends project is.

The majority of software runs on old outdated .net framework and no one is going to take the time to port it to .net 10 even though it only takes a short time to do so itself, but keep in mind a lot of this isn't the porting it's the testing, release which includes 20 year old enterprise clients who are stingy about change and paying for any updated anything.

Up until OS 26 I'd agree with you but honestly it's not far off from windows other than some small permissions annoyances and the stupid natural scrolling. I got a neo out of desperation to do some audio work and immediately felt at home where I never did on my older Air.

It should work but you'll need .net 10 and powershell. works on macos, win64 and winarm64 so far I just haven't uploaded binaries since it's just work between a friend and I on weekends to fine tune or fix things

Weird. I find the balance for player vs AI to be actually pretty horrible. AI can outrange artillery sight so you have no choice but to push forward always or micro manage units. I have a fork of OpenRA on my GitHub where I try to address this, along with pathfinding bugs, enabling Tiberian Sun and fixing bugs with that. I also updated it to cross platform .NET 10 and bumped the performance up about 6-10x fixing minor bugs. Debating if I'll roll any of the code over as pulls to the main project ever after I tried to fix a random bug before and they were not welcoming to me but that was like a decade ago.

Most valve games are 32bit macos binaries I assume for powerpc or Intel or something but they flat out refuse to run on modern ox

Disappointing it doesnt list the expected or sale price that it went for on either the article or the linked auction page.

I'm not sure they are sleeping. I have an older version and it can run games and other things just fine, its just over priced and not properly cooled. The driver/firmware support from Lenovo / Qualcomm is purely garbage. You're lucky to get a driver update to fix anything. For months it just overheated and video would start corrupting but that got fixed finally. You cant just go to Qualcomm's website and download new drivers even though it looks like you can - they really dont get how modern GPU's work on Windows - a driver updates to optimize for games is really something important because of how Windows is but the experience is pulling teeth. If the systems were Neo priced (500-700 USD) and had a cooling fan I'd be all on board with these systems. Right now, AMD with unified memory is just the better deal for the $1200 (2025) systems to run Windows and an average workload.

Microsoft was considered the competitor and they lack in house phone dev which the neo is built on, no chip of their own etc. Everyone else is stuck with whatever the market gives them for CPU/GPU and probably less buying power on SSD and Ram. Then we have the operating system that has its own minimum requirements to work smoothly and for windows I don't really think 8gb total system memory is going to cut it.

Passed away? What evidence do you have around that statement?

There's even a Tom Cruise movie about it called American Made.
