We use SPIFFE/SPIRE at work. It works well for our use case, remote embedded workflows that need to phone home. It's very exacting: everything must be exactly right for the attestation to succeed. So it takes extra effort when you commit to that path.

The Ashley Book of Knots has 3857 numbered entries. Each is suited to specific requirements. Some are just fun or decorative. It can be a hobby to learn more.

Domain people might have a dozen knots to get their job done. I just took a swift water rescue class; we got by with maybe five total for our situation.

Tying shorts? Maybe two or three are best suited.

Sort of - it's collective wrongdoing. Individuals on the street do not do this to each other. Individuals in groups justify their tiny contribution as insignificant towards the aggregate societal harm the organism does.

Leaders like Zuck, on the other hand, have no excuse.

And marketers, there's still time to save your souls and find honest work.

Meta is a symptom; the whole business is rotten.

We've all heard the vocabulary: engagement maximization, a/b testing, emotional targeting, ad auctions, user surveillance, sentiment analysis. Children are not emotionally or intellectually prepared to repel this hostile takeover of their minds.

Civilization needs to rein in all these terrible things corporations do to humans.

Hrm, it sounds like they're managing their liability. Anything that might get them sued later?

Wait, so instead of saying "I'm sorry Dave, I can't talk about that", they're now banning you for one blocked prompt? Is this new?

Who would sue, and on what ground?

They basically gave stuff away for free and now they're speed-running enshittification. The end state will be an abusive, adversarial, fully monetized, vendor lockin experience like Oracle or Broadcom. Nobody is forced to play.

That judge may be an outlier today, but we all know tomorrow they could sweep through all accounts and ban everyone that spoke against the regime. We have arrived.

That's fine. The occasional boom, assuming business success this time, will last a few seconds. Leaf blowers last for hours in some neighborhoods.

It's not the hearing damage, it's the psychological stress.

If you really want to make an impact on the noise floor, ban gasoline leaf blowers.

Anybody recognize the terminal on the desk? I've asked two LLMs and they were both very wrong.

It's not the site's fault.

These things are open server ports on the wild internet. Anyone with a "for" loop can find them easily. If they care about privacy they shouldn't have them public.

One of the larger DCs is 7.65 GW on 8000 acres in Texas. It will radiate around 236.3 W/m^2 (compare vs 1000 W/m^2 solar irradiation). This emission continues 24/7/365, while the sun doesn't. So yes, the UHI is real.

That plus all the gas turbines powering it which release many tons of gasses.

And finally all the infrasound from the DC and its generators have impacts on humans and all creatures for many miles away.

Oh and the water consumption.
