Apple will and did surrender iCloud data to LE, so would Google.
they denied unlocking the device or implementing backdoor in the future, which I believe is not feature any other vendors have implemented.
And let's not forget that the device apple was so eager to protect belonged to already dead terrorist, as far as average user is concerned that was a PR stunt.
I agree with author's point in regard of fiction/non fiction literature, as it gets traction among readers there is a better chance to sell a hard copy or get a citation.
However in case of professional and academic literature, as much as I would prefer that personally, such approach simply is not maintainable.
The best middle ground I've come across is when author gives out free copies per each request (like a letter from student who can't afford to pay the full amount)
Economy failing->as result currency falls.
If one would want to move said currency to USD or gold, it would be shady; especially given level of corruption and barriers from banks and state to move currency internationally.
Makes sense to me.
Wouldn't they just dominate the seas?
Being in the water would give them more real estate and would let them work with higher volumes, therefore growing/evolving faster. And since we are going there as result of 'out-teching' land people they would flood everything (by melting ice) and colonize land space.
According to Gizmodo report military is using Google's Tensor Flow units for footage processing, it would be fair to assume that it's simply a trial contract to see if they can process some of that footage.
That could potentially mean government contracts for private companies going to the lowest bidder, some time in the near future.

While I couldn't find any info on who left. Assuming it was high paid AI researchers/engineers, it puts number of employees resigned in a perspective.
