I haven't really experimented with being "nice" or "mean", but I would worry that a prompt like "No, dumbass, ..." would kick it into the patterns of someone who frequently got called a dumbass (perhaps for good reason) in the training set. On the other hand, maybe it could trigger more defensive responses with argumentation to explain its conclusions.

I would say the hammer is no AI. Local models are the cheapest XKGYAGH electric nailer on Amazon that "works" but jams up all the time. The $20/mo cloud models are a nice DeWalt that gives an hour of jam-free operation but takes five hours to recharge. And if someone else is paying for it, one can use the heavy duty nail gun with a big generator and compressor on a trailer that can run all day.

I think the garbled menu accidentally perfectly illustrates what most menus look like within the brain as it tries to sift through poorly organized heaps of obscure words to find the one word that's actually needed in the moment.

These are geopolitical activities akin to the arms buildup of the Cold War, but happening somewhat more openly through the guise of private sector investments. The names of the companies involved are ephemeral. The numbers "invested" are largely imaginary, just play money pumped into the system over the last few years, flowing around, searching for a place to park. The result will be a certain amount of tangible infrastructure in the form of datacenters, power plants, semiconductor fabs. It's a Hail Mary move to keep pace with a certain geopolitical competitor. This process may propel society to the next level or may collapse it, depending on how society chooses to use these resources and how successful the competitor is at its own similar endeavor.

The last two paragraphs are mainly what stood out. I've spent hours trying to get LLMs to stop writing like that. It's hard because you can't just say things like "don't write lists of three items" because sometimes you want a list of three items. The rest of the text could be written by a person as it's kind of disjointed, but that could also be the result of trying to prompt out the AI-isms.

It's also more consistent with "no longer", which implies a progressive action. An alternative is "will not support", which is no longer indicating (or does not indicate) that it had been supporting epub for a while.

That said, "will no longer support" is more succinct and clear enough.

I think Reddit is largely protected from being sued (in the US) for copyright infringement in comments/submissions as long as they comply with valid DMCA notices. But yeah, that involves removing the content.

I don't think changing the user agent string affects which codecs or device drivers are available on the client. If changing the user agent string "solves" the problem, then the problem is most likely with the site - especially if the same problem and solution exist between different browsers. They are probably assuming some capability is absent instead of testing and gracefully degrading.

I wonder what happens in Windows 10 with a user agent mimicking a Linux environment. Does the site slow down? If so, the support bot can't brush it off since it's a supported operating system.
