Canadian tech was thriving 10-20 years ago, there is a reason it was called Silicon Valley North. RIM, Nortel, Celestica, QNX... I can't explain what exactly happened. A simple explanation would be Liberals prioritized real estate growth, unlimited immigration to artificially boost GDP but I suspect the problem is more complex.

Yeah, there is a famous book on that called "Bullshit Jobs: A Theory" by David Graeber

That's not recent knowledge worker problem. It started with industrial revolution and working 16 hours work days on a dark factory floor. What about Bedouins and other desert dwelling people? They had been trying to reduce sun exposure with complete body skin cover for millenias, it must have been some benefit for that. And what about skin cancer rates, it is probably reduced due to low sun exposure.

[*] All parts of the Israeli population have high birth rates, even the secular Jews. I find it misleading to single out Orthodox Jews as the main contributor. You don't do that to Evangelical Christians or Mormons, or some other groups in US.

I don't think the religion is the driver here.

That's a pretty normal reaction to market forces. One of the few level-headed, down-to-earth CEOs.

LLMs are just pushed by everyone at us, people just can't stand hearing about it anymore even if they use it and find it helpful. It's like at PyCon2026 the keynote was about LLM, and people were just leaving in the middle, including GvR.

I think that's temporarily. The trend is to reduce the population, see Europe and China.

China is even worse than Russia on that matter. Before the invasion to Ukraine, Russia was heavily involved in Syria, Chechnia and other conflicts and with that experience it failed miserably. China, with all its posturing, military wise is even worse than Russia. That's why all it can do is propaganda war on social media to weaken American society.

Spain is often given as an example of a failed economy ruined by socialists. GDP per capita is basically flat over the last 2 decades, $30K. https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/countries/esp/spa... vs Poland that tripled or let's say Israel that had the same GDP as Spain and now has double.
