it looks like they aren't enclosed (which is something i'm looking for) and they basically look like the same kind of rack that i used in the 90s, which is fine, but i was thinking there is something better nowadays.
i'm not really looking for a bargain. i'm looking for the state of the art in racks. i used to build/run data centers 15 years ago, and racks kind of sucked back then. i'm just thinking there's a "better way" nowadays and i'm hoping to get some tips from folks that are in that world today.
interesting note: these photos are legit, except the starry background has been added afterwards to make a composite shot.
you can see that they are all identical star fields, and you can see the slight egg shaped stars at an angle, which happens when a shutter is opened for ~30 seconds or so (because stars move across the sky.)
the photographer would have to have a relatively quick shutter to capture the fine details of the ash cloud burst, but at that speed it would not pick up the stars at all.
also, the high altitude penalties for electric motors are completely negligible. cooling efficiency for an electric motor has nothing to do with power output.
>Some policymakers argue that people who engage in unhealthy habits also impose negative externalities, since they tend to present taxpayers with bigger medical bills. In practice, however, these costs tend to be overstated.
hotbot used to be backed by inktomi. fun fact: inktomi was the first search engine to use "shared-nothing clustering" (what everyone calls server farms nowadays) to power it's back end. it was a cluster of sparc machines.
