nexus one was not advertised commercially. it was never intended to be a mainstream product it was a solution for people who wish to purchase and bypass carrier lockdowns.
it solved that problem rather well so by that purpose it is a success.
that's assuming there's always something you could have done to make the outcome what you wanted.
which is balderdash.
it's okay to be hard on yourself, you should be saying "it's my problem" not "it's my fault". unless you want to end up broken down and drinking away your misery
pretty much what i was thinking. the position that flash is unviable on a mobile device is just untenable. sure not all web-flash applications will work without tweaking simply because the usage cases are different, but that does not invalidate the platform in the slightest
i'm an android guy also, but it's really more of a iphone thing. if you think about it, iphone is a platform for stuff that works with no tweaking, whereas android is more robust yet fragmented and that creates a different user-base.
i just feel that the type of people who play games (like facebook type games "oooh i got to feed my fish!") are more of the iphone crowd
how hard would it be to create a phone-accessible chat room where you could have community participation and a few google reps on-hand ready to make app recommendations and answer questions about what is available on the market?
it needs native profile emulation. say a specific application is designed to run 480x320. any higher res device would be able to run it by upscaling its output to fit its larger screen. your device would then be only able to run profiles (and applications that can run on those specific profiles) that actually fit your device specs
this sounds more feasible than any other plan i've seen proposed. having the owner also be an investor/backer or having an available network of angels that prospective hackers can apply to in order to get "rent funding".
it's not iphone. you can't compare an incumbent frontrun technology with a community playing catch up. if you can't see why android is better and will be more successful than iphone then it's not for you.
going to sherlock this one and say his superior stole the device for some black market green, he put the subordinate as the only one in charge because he'd be easy to blame.
the argument on whether it should support it is directly proportional to the amount it would benefit from having it.
other phones are moving to incorporate flash 10 support, and will be gaining the robust libraries of already created content as well as newly developed apps and games and entertainment media that will be created specifically to target these capable platforms.
if it turns out that market share / developer interest starts to decline, then it proves that it did need it.
i for one think that it does need it, and they will never have it.
it's absurd to believe in either of the two polarizing spectrums of this argument. intelligence obviously lies somewhere in the middle, and i would myself more favor the side that argues for potential and advocates the nurturing of all children instead of one that could potentially "write-off" certain children of what they would call Inferior Genetics.
it's just repugnant
[edit] sounds like i'm attacking YOU in what i said, but i am not. i'm just venting.
flash - apple is not going to let unchecked content onto its device
backgrounding - apple refuses to let multiple applications run at the same time
customization - you get it the way apple wants you to get it
app store - dictatorial approval process, it's the only way to get apps on your phone
one device - whatever apple gives you, you better like it. want a qwerty keyboard? tough luck.
and that's just SOME of the limitations...
[ps] the "Sense UI" running on HTC hero will be on the winmo devices as well like Touch HD and TouchPro 2. so it's not just android that is going to kick apple's ass.
develop for android, then port to iphone/etc if you feel the market is there for your application and it is worth your time.
android has the least restrictive environment, and is taking off in a huge way. the market isn't quite there yet due to the small number of android handsets available for purchase (and stupid carrier exclusivities if you want to argue it) but the more people that hop on this bandwagon, the better it becomes for everyone.
also android as an OS was built for phones sure (google was trying to find a way to increase its mobile search market) but the low overhead and high level of customizability and the fact that its free is leading to installation on a myriad of other devices.
i can't wait till i have android running in my car, just bluetooth to it from my phone and be able to monitor all the internal systems, maybe even upload a new build that i downloaded from carforums last night to make it run more efficiently and shit.
i had a similar idea for a web-rep system a while back. my idea included customizable avatars by which you could spend points on. a little extra incentive to participate positively on sites, and something you can show off.
an extended idea would involve games that you could play using your avatar on various sites. take your character and go play the new promotional game from cocacola along with your friends or whatever. take him out to the newly opened online theme part and walk around, ride some rides, play some skill games.
just thought it would be pretty cool to have the web itself be a landscape that you could adventure in with your "personal online character". might be a fun alternative to world of warcraft and all that senseless killing... :D
"hopes to improve mobile payment methods, security, privacy and user interfaces and, chiefly, to enhance the ability of corporations to use mobile devices to interact with customers and employees."
well it's attacking the right areas... can't wait to ditch the wallet and cards and just carry a phone around
it solved that problem rather well so by that purpose it is a success.
