Its a file manager I use daily. Well made, no issues. I wish its open-source for the sole reason that I want to read that code. It works so well and very light.
Ok, this is just a non-technical version of what @souterrain posted.
If I am the CEO of a local supermarket or a butchery, I don't need to know my domain registrar as they are not a major factor to my business. My website being down for 1 week also might not make a big difference. My customers deal with my company face to face.
But if I am a CEO of an "Internet company" and my customers deal with me via my "domain", I damn well ensure that I have a weekly quick call with the guy who could block my domain abruptly.
Couple of things about Zoho that I don't understand.
- Why use the same domain for the free service, which is usually more prone to abuse?
- Zohocorp.com is hosted on GoDaddy. Why not move all your domains to a single company so that they value your business more and give you a better level of customer service?
I hope once this is all over, Zoho just shares their feedback and some advices that will help small businesses.
> But in software you don't need to cut down trees or mine ore.
Lets not forget the dictators with child soldiers that use forced labour to mine the rare earth materials & the factories with nets to catch the workers that attempt suicide, which are a part of making computers & mobiles that is vital for software development. Also, where our old devices & batteries end up. Softwares do rack up a huge carbon foot-print.
I think a better way of putting is that the founders of these startups will cringe to share a public stage or at the very mention of one of the mentioned groups but will happily take their money.
Exactly, innovation is dead. Now its a bunch of remix artist that are trying to make a quick buck. Whatsapp is purposely going stale (what is the deal with only being able to sync with gdrive or icloud, what if I want to switch my OS, how to get my data out?) in the hopes that people will move to messenger like how Google just killed gtalk in the hope that customers will move to one their many messenger.
This is the case in hardware also. Every phone looks like an iphone & tablets are a larger phone, I miss the days when Nokia & Samsung used to release phones of various form factors.
What you are talking about is "echo chamber". By subscribing to a select few people who share your mind set, you only get messages from them and when that is all you see, you think that is general consensus and you dig in. What you see on a social media page is in no way a reflection of how the general population thinks.
I once saw the homepage of my colleagues facebook page and I was not sure if it was actually facebook. We did not even share a single post and all the news feed was a direct reflect on the person he was, which took me months of daily interaction to understand.
Contract workers or Uber workers is a bad deal for all, with some short term gains.
For a worker, yes, its less of office politics and having to deal with crappy co-workers. But that is how you grow. I learned so much when I am working with people than being all alone. So, having couple of people approach the same problem in different ways, helps you learn, teach & grow. I was learning something new everyday, when I was working in a team. Plus contract jobs are effecting the basic needs of human beings - "food, clothing & shelter", due to the very nature of uncertainly. Basically I am more worried about the basics and not as focused at my job when I have a full time job. I feel that I am just completing the task at hand to get paid. I don't analyse the issue and try to find a solution or seek for some improvement. Plus working in a specific domain for a period will help in gaining experience and you have build up skills.
For a employer, how much ever you document a solution, there is going to be knowledge gaps. Only when you have someone working on a problem for a while, will they be able to come up with a better solution. Each employee comes come a different background and will view the problems differently. That will bring about a nice work culture.
Team work is not given enough credit. Instead, there is always the focus on one rock star that does it all. I personally feel that for that one rock star to actually perform, there needs to be a team behind to support.
I have heard of stories like yours. Its sad. Cannot you counter sue the lady??? you have proof of being in a relationship and the pics she sent you on your anniversary. You should not let idiots screw you over like this.
I started off my developer career as a MS Access developer, developed CRUD applications that helps a business. MS Access is a very versatile tool and I love it. I even prefer it over Excel. I once made a MS Access application for a client that wanted a web based application as a upgrade to the existing excel solution.
Many alternatives were had as a replacement for one of the apps in MS Office. I did test out LibreOffice's Base. It did not seem to be a proper alternative for the purpose of making a standalone application. The whole application in 1 file.
Access has flaws too in terms of backing up data. That is the biggest drawback and in the web era, Access seems like a relic. VB6 has limits in terms of making a full fledged UI. But it is functional.
The closest successor i think would be a SQLite+electron app. I have not worked on it to see how it will turn out.
My only issue with whatsapp is how the data is stored in a central place. I am a person switching between ios and android and I have lost a lot of data. Plus even has issue in the same device after formatting.
I am not a big fan of having my mobile number as my identity as I keep moving around and change my mobile when I get a better package. I wanted an app that assign me a unique id and I can share in that my current mobile number where people can call me in.
Just yesterday, I was looking at a phone running all the various IM apps and whatsapp was the lowest with 18mb, IMO was 40mb while facebook was 100+ mb. not sure if it was the messenger alone or facebook + messenger.
Facebook doesn't seems to be interested in improving whatsapp.
I remember reading a while back that Steve Jobs hated the button on the iphone. The button was added as a compromise.
It may be, that this is the real vision of Steve Jobs. But that being said, I doubt if Steve Jobs will fully like the iphone X as I am reminded of the iPhone5 ad about size being a "dazzling display of common sense"(https://youtu.be/O99m7lebirE). So iphone X's design is just lacking in common sense?
FYI: I personally have a 5S, Nexus 7 2012 & laptop. I feel a mobile bigger than SE is impractical and its better to get a Samsung Note.
If Google cannot handle some criticism from a "supposedly friendly entity" (since they are bank rolled by Google), this shows their level of arrogance and the unwillingness to change their ways.
You need to evolve with time. Especially a tech company like Google failing to understand that is rather sad.
Now Google has set precedence that they will not tolerate anything critical. So, the consultants & advisor will just praise Google till the day it sinks.
I believe that India has to leapfrog the whole car obsession and move over to an effective and extensive public transportation and make cities more “superblocks" like in Barcelona (https://youtu.be/ZORzsubQA_M).
By collapse, you mean all dead & extinct in the lake? As in, there is 0% chance of them returning from the dead like the eggs that are laid which is start growing once there is new food source?
If the zebra mussel are all dead, would it be possible to transplant a family of fish from some other lake, so they can start a life in Lake Michigan and bring it back to life?
