We can't have much more confidence that other humans are conscious (solipsism) than we can that dogs are conscious. We could say that other humans have (1) a similar brain to us and (2) we are conscious, then say the corollary (3) other humans are conscious, is likely true. But I could make the same argument for dogs, only premise (1) is slightly weaker.

Panpsychists don't draw the line at a single cell and would say that a rock is conscious, to a smaller extent than a human is or an insect is. Doing this gets around the issue of consciousness suddenly arising in a discontinuous way along the spectrum of a rock to a human

That's exactly what we expect to see in a meritocratic system. Chess, poker and competitive gaming are almost completely meritocratic (especially poker) and we see the exact same distribution of outcomes.

It is heavily political since there's no evidence of efficacy. You can see the heterodox academy piece that summarises the available evidence. Since it is not efficacious then I'm forced to conclude that the motive is political and ideological.

This article is literally fake news. It references SPLC which is known to be full of crap (Majid Nawaz) and they provide no evidence that the accused individual is actually a white supremacist. The fact that you and a handful of others have bought into this fake news is what's concerning here.

This is a pedantic response. There isn't an important difference between building a physical system and building a system in code whose generating process is that which you're trying to model. And everyone knew he didn't mean every outcome literally.

You're missing the point. Their bias doesn't come from whether they've literally worked in the White House, it comes from their political beliefs and how strongly those beliefs are held. How many in the NYT vocally support the Republican Party vs vocally support the Democratic Party?

+1 for pragmatism and common sense, a lot of the sciences (especially social science) is useless fluff

The visual test is the best. By far the biggest problem among data scientists is being too theoretical and relying too much on statistical tests and metrics instead of common sense and visualizations. I've worked with many quantitative researchers in the finance industry and those that are successful are always the least theoretical, do not rely on tests, and everything is visualized heavily and conclusions inferred from that. Gut feeling, intuition and visuals are the best protection against over-fitting, p-hacking and self-deception.

Actually there is a reason to believe the replication over the original, or vice versa. There's vastly different selection effects occuring for original Vs replication which impact statistical test size
