I read the book, just like the author did, and every single book out there has typographical errors and mistakes. so does this one. who. fucking. cares. and Isaacson didn't need to tell us how wrong Gates was when he criticized the purchase of NeXT by Apple, because it is fucking obvious and Isaacson rightly didn't feel the need to point out the obvious in his book, much to his credit.
no, it is too fancy, cluttered, and hard to read. creative, yes, full credit there. but not easy to read, and comes across as pretentious. great if you're looking for graphic design work. not great if you're looking for engineering work or programming work. simple, black ink on white paper, edited content (get to "the point"), easy to scan and read quickly is what you want.
he lost me when he spelled "center" as "centre" which is incorrect in North America. and I've built three PCs in the past six months and all three have an AMD CPU, not Intel. I feel the best bang for the buck is still AMD, hands down.
VOIP doesn't approach landline quality yet. it's got a long way to go. you can't make a phone call over VOIP if the power is out. landline telephone service will continue regardless of what the marketing people say. fuck AT&T!

My wife is from Japan, and she returns every year or so to visit her mother and father (she missed last year because we went on vacation to London instead). Every time she returns to Japan she suddenly becomes Japanese. Her voice changes, her style of clothing changes, etc. It is remarkable. She is, like many Japanese, a dyed in the wool city girl. She loves the city, the energy it has, the newness and changes, and most of all, the masses of people scurrying around at all hours. Her parents own a small piece of land out in the sticks, and her father intended to build a house on the property when she was a baby. But when her mother saw how far it was to the train station (too far to walk or take bicycle), she refused, and to this day they have rented a small house within 12 minutes walk to the train station that takes them into the heart of Osaka in just 10 minutes.
I read this move as meaning that the corporate Starbucks stores are all alike, and therefore in high-density areas where there is actually competition, people will naturally gravitate toward a "local" option with a more unique and "local" feeling inside. I agree with this opinion, and the move is a good one for the company. Even though these new "local" Starbucks are still highly regulated "corporate" creations.
I really like reddit, and have wasted far too much time reading articles linked there. At least I have the right to downvote an article or comment. Here on HN, even with a karma score of 120, I am not allowed to downvote a comment or article, which pretty much removes any reason to come here and participate in the first place. With two years on reddit, as a casual user who is allowed to fully participate, my Karma score is nearly 2500.
yeah, too bad he wants to tear it down and build a new one in its place. I love old 1920s style Stucco homes. They have a hell of a lot more character and style than anything new. It's sad to see the house lived in in those photos and now its derelict and empty and rotting away.

this illustrates the biggest problem with the culture in the USA today. people are too god damn sensitive. people "get offended" by something as stupid as a twitter post. twitter, good god! what is next???
