Why is everyone pitchforking that it's not enough? It's a library that is free for everyone, nearly every company on the web uses it somewhere. Almost none of them donate anything. Someone at AWS went through the effort to make this donation, I think that should only be encouraged.
Wow 5k
Don’t blow the entire bank account AWS
I'm sure the authors of curl are reeling about getting a $5000 donation for their free bit of code.
It’s ok, they were smart enough to not setup a recurring charge.

I wonder if it's just a random manager who approved the donation.
For those who don't have experience of big orgs 5k is often in the region where you don't need to go higher for approval or involve procurement

This could be donation matching. I don't think AWS would give such a small sum for any other reason.
The "congratulations" is a bit condescending. AWS clearly benefits from curl. But I guess that is FOSS in a nutshell.
AWS C++ SDK uses it to access AWS. Probably some other AWS SDKs as well. That amount should have been at least 10x and recurring.

Don't we all?
Don't we all?
What a ridicolous amount....aws is almost mocking the curl developers with such a shitty sum and a one-time payment as well.
What is wrong with these tech companies? Completely out of touch with the reality of the rest of the planet.

If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk. They didn't have to donate at all. $5k is not an insignificant amount of money for most people.

But it is an insignificant, rounding-to-zero, amount of money for Amazon given how much they rely on curl (and other OSS).
