Ask HN: How is the CDC not a joke?
The CDC is absolutely a joke -- a joke that is not funny at all
Lots of downvotes, but no one answering the question.
Source is pretty partisan, as are the sources cited in the article. I was hoping for better, more rigorous reporting.

Sure, the New York Times is a highly partisan source, but it's one that tends to back the CDC blindly, not one that's known for campaigning against the CDC.

What exactly do you see that is false or unrighteous in your "quick skim"?
They said "partisan", not false or unrighteous?
A partisan viewpoint is pretty explicitly stated:
> The motive force of Brownstone Institute is the global crisis created by policy responses to the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020. That trauma revealed a fundamental misunderstanding alive in all countries around the world today, a willingness on the part of the public and officials to relinquish freedom and fundamental human rights in the name of managing a public health crisis, which was not in fact managed well in most countries. The consequences were devastating and will live in infamy.

Why mention that it's partisan except to disparage?
For what specific reason beyond partisanship should we dismiss this?
Pointing out others' partisanship without making actual arguments seems awfully partisan, too. Partisan but empty.

There's no reporting, it's a blockquote from the NYT, who was doing reporting, and surrounding, completely unrelated text advocating for Libertarianism and against lockdowns.
I love how libertarians simultaneously paint government organizations as successfully scheming to pull the wool over our eyes, and completely inept.
In this instance, I would be surprised if Hanlon's razor weren't enough to explain all of this. But instead, they're attributing it to malice.

The issue is whether the CDC are incompetent or scheming, they've proven repeatedly they can't be trusted. And that's a big problem.
This article would have you believe the CDC is scheming. But if you read most other Libertarian literature, they will also have you believe that the government is incompetent. So which is it?
Is the CDC successfully conspiring to hide tons of data from the public with no whistleblowers and no leaks to the contrary? OR is the CDC an incompetent organization that can't be trusted to collect something as simple as a little disease data?
If I had to guess, I would guess that the CDC is understaffed, and working hard to pump out this data as fast as they can, and it's just hard to comb through with the kind of granularity they'd like to get out. Because, you know, I've worked at a job and that's the kind of stuff that happens at work...
