Ask HN: Why don’t laptops beep loudly like cars when locking and unlocking?
Why are cars allowed to create noise pollution but laptops aren’t?

My car (a Toyota Celica) only beeps when I've pressed the lock button more than once. I presume the beep is there in case you can't see the car, and you want to verify it's locked.
It doesn't make a sound, when I use the key in the door lock.

When you lock your laptop, are you ever standing metres away in a noisy outdoor urban environment?
Why do you need to be standing meters away from your car when you lock or unlock it?
Honestly, this has to just be rage bait.
You can't honestly not understand the difference between a car being in large parking lots and not being able to see if the door is locked or not by looking at it from the outside, compared to a laptop being in your office or on your lap and 0% of the time being in a pile of 500 other laptops.
My Thinkpad x201 does this
