Hadn't heard of Quod Libet, that's a good recommendation!

> The other potentially obvious question is why bother using an OS that’s out of support when Linux is so good?

I'm in the process of setting up a Linux desktop to replace my Win10 one, and for me it's these (if anyone has suggestions for migration or replacement, I'd love some opinions!)

- Lightroom. If anyone knows how to either run this under Linux, or migrate an entirely catalog of photos (plus edits) to something open source (including the Negative Lab Pro plugin), that would be amazing.

- MusicBee. There just does not seem to be a good music manager for Linux that can replace MusicBee. I rarely use it as a music player, there are dozens of great options for Linux music players, but MusicBee feeds my Airsonic instance, and I have not found a good way to manage music graphically in a way that maintains this setup.

- Games. This is really getting better and better each year...but I regularly play Microsoft Flight Simulator and haven't even tried to get that running in Linux yet (anyone have good experiences getting this working?)

I'm probably in the minority for preferring journald's binary logging, especially alleviating the need for things like log-rotate, which I have always fought issues with. I like how RedHat distros have it setup, where journald collects the logs, but rsyslog is there parsing them into the traditional /var/log/messages and /var/log/secure, so you get some logs in plain text as well as being able to send them along to an rsyslog server the traditional way.

I haven't run into a situation with corrupt binary logs, and any crashed system I've booted with a rescue disk I can connect to the binary logs from the rescue distro's journalctl. That being said, I imagine one bad experience with a corrupt log or a non-booting system I can't get logs from would change my mind pretty quickly, but that hasn't been the case for almost a decade, so *shrug*

> I shot a lot of black and white film in college for our paper. One of my obsolete skills was thinking how an image would look in black and white while shooting, though I never understood the people who could look at a scene and decide to use a red filter..

Dark skies and dramatic clouds!

Pirate streams of NHL hockey games seem to come from the source before it goes to the networks who overlay it with additional scoreboards, scores of other games, and other junk on the screen. When they cut to commercial, it goes to a sequence of black and white slow motion footage of ice and rink preparation. It looks like the placeholder that the networks then put their ads on top of during breaks.

Why is it not possible to pay for this version of the stream? Even if I sign up for ESPN through Comcast or whatever hoops I have to jump through to access live sports, I still get the version with the ads and screen junk. Pirate streams are higher def and just more pleasant to watch. Sometimes you can even choose streams with no commentation at all, just the sounds of the sport. Where are these options in the paid streaming service?

K2 Cinch bindings. If you snowboard with skiers, who are constantly complaining about the time it takes to do up your bindings after getting off the lift, these things are awesome.
