What I find most fascinating about it all is that it makes absolutely no rational sense when looking at it from a financial/investor perspective. It only starts making a lot of sense when you look at it from a far different perspective, a longer term strategic motivation that has very little to do with investment and returns or financial prudence, any more than those are on the mind of any military.

Your perspective is utterly befuddling. You think it’s not fair, yet nothing at all stops you from paying more taxes to make your contribution a fair one instead of benefitting from the “loopholes”. The only thing that is not fair is the tax enslavement of people who cannot manage to free themselves of that enslavement; not, in the twisted perspective you share with so many, that it is unfair that not more people are subjected to proportional and ever increasing enslavement by taxation.

Your perspective is simply not a healthy or logical one. The solution to the majority of people not being free, is not to take the freedom from more people, it is to make more people free of proportional enslavement by taxes.

I know you will surely feel compelled to rebut with something akin to “taxation is for the common good”, but not only is that all just codependent subjugation that is common to people who defer to abusers, but nothing is more “common good” than for people to keep the fruits of their work and labor instead of it being stolen to fund the lifestyles of the rich and any number of people they want to squander other people’s money on to curry personal advantages.

Taxation is slavery “pivoted”, rebranded, redesigned, relaunched, reimagined. Never were people as taxed and robbed as the middle class are today in the west. They pay immense tax on their work, then they pay tax on spending that taxed money, then they pay tax on the things they were taxed to buy with taxed money they earned, then they pay tax on money they saved, and they pay tax on using money that was taxed to earn it when they buy gasoline to get to work where they will be taxed on the money they earn to pay for necessities to go to their taxed job.

The amount of compounded and nested taxation of the middle class in particular is utterly immoral, depraved, and evil.

Stories like this make me somewhat despondent due to the fact that UTF-8 can be designed and implemented for basically free over three days, while mountains of money are burned to make con artists rich for next to no progress over decades on other issues.

I am not quite sure just from cursory review, but I find that just ripping things out is rarely the answer to poor design. I get it, it's supposed to be a focus view, but dumbing down tools is not an alternative to good design.

I think you are making a mistake in your prescription. From my perspective it is not the engineers that need to work closer with the designers, but rather the designers that need to work closer with the managers with engineer support. It's a critical mistake I see all over the place, and it's a rather silly one when you think about it. As you described, the boss can bring the whole thing into disharmony, so why, for better or worse, would you not want to bring that variable into the process loop as closely as possible. I get it, it's not something many want to do and some may even loathe their bosses mucking around and screwing things up, but reality is that if you don't adapt to the process it will guarantee to screw your process up; so just adapt to reality and not let the stubbornness sabotage things.

What is always missed in the debate about slavery, is that slavery hurt the common people far more than even the salves in most cases for the very same reason that "immigration" is solely about driving up profits of the ruling class on the backs of the middle and lower class, by selling their own people out to foreign mercenary pillagers. Slavery was essentially were fed, housed, and taken care of because they represented the low wage labor necessary to drive the wealth of the ruling class; while the common people (mostly white) were not only left to their own devices to scrounge out a living in poverty and having to make their own way in life having to take care of themselves ( in spite of what spoiled brats today think, "white people" did not live a life of Club Med), they were also undermined by slavery the very same way that your support of immigration undermines citizens.

At the very least, "immigrants" should have to pay immensely higher taxes to compensate and reward citizens for what they and their forefathers created, but employers of immigrants should also have to pay immensely higher taxes, which of course they will have no problem paying since the immigrants will "do jobs Americans will not do".

I don't get this spiteful jealousy over the freedom from the slavery through taxation. Why would we not all want everyone to pay as few taxes as possible, rather than being spitefully jealous that some can manage to free themselves of the slavery of taxation.

I get it though, the rich who both benefit most from the slavery of taxation by being individually great beneficiaries of that slave money taken from the middle class, are also the ones who add and modify rules that allows them to skirt the condition of tax slavery.

If you don't realize that taxation (beyond the fundamental costs of operating the core Constitutional roles of government) is proportional slavery; then you really can't contribute anything positive to this discussion at all. No slavey who does not realize they are a salve can ever hope to free themselves.

I find the this whole wage debate rather interesting, because it is not only an extremely misunderstood issue, at the same times as it is a core measure of the condition of society (Please do not confuse that with a notion of "health", but rather the objective "condition" of the society, also not just the economy)

The ideal state of any economy is one in which balance of opportunities exists to the point where an equilibrium is created between employers and employees, or even the transmutation of employees into employers; where you are paid what an efficient profit seeking employer is able to pay and what you ask for as you sell your labor (encompassing all manner of work).

What we unfortunately today have, most notably in the USA, is not only a distorted, but also a deliberately and intentionally distorted labor market in which the ruling class puts immense pressure on the scales against the working class in order to manipulate the system and market, which amounts to fraud. It comes in various forms, but one of them is relevant to this issue, that being the importation of subversive labor to artificially drive down wages in order to turn the delta into profits.

That's what this story is about, as much as the immigration issue that the ruling class has convinced the "liberal" side of the political spectrum to champion, against the interest of the working people they claim to champion, and for the profit of the ruling class, whether by corporate profit or personal savings when they hire nannies, cooks, maids, landscapers, etc. about their homes.

As interesting as I find this issue in a general sense, it is also sad watching what amounts to the ruling class manipulating and deceiving and defrauding the ordinary people no differently than they have for hundreds of years, including things like convincing regular people that "immigration" is wonderful, while not explaining the fact that without immigration people would be far far better off.

Immigration is a ruling class con job, on both the origin and destination end. On the destination end it leads to things like this subject article where workers are desperately trying ad hoc procedures to untangle the gordian knot that could easily be undone by ceasing immigration, and on the originating end the destination ruling class are syphoning off human resources that could have led to the development of the originating country, while also sabotaging destination workers and people; while the origin ruling class is happy to be rid o the motivated and driven people who could likely organize and demand changes that would see their rule challenged.

I got a bit off track, but as much as I find that people have a hard time understanding that this subject issue is directly related to the exploitative and fraudulent and manipulative practice of "immigration", aka, shifting human resources around globally to serve the ruling class; I also wish I could understand why people do not seem to want to accept that reality as they fawn over the ruling class that sabotages them for personal profit, while at the same time lamenting the ruling class' exploitative nature otherwise. It's quite an odd phenomenon.

It always amuses me when people make that utterly irrational and illogical claim that gun manufacturers are responsible for what people do with the tool/machine called a gun/weapon/arms. Even if we just ignore the deeply evil motivation to take the means for people to protect themselves away; a gun is not responsible for the actions of a perpetrator any more than the manufacturer of knives, or a baseball bat, or a car, or even a toothbrush that is turned into a shiv.

If you want to find a real entity to blame, the only culpable person beyond the perpetrator is the government, politicians, and bureaucrats that conspire and plot to deprive people their fundamental and inherent rights in direct violation of the constitution. If you take over responsibility for keeping people safe, then you are also liable for your actions, ESPECIALLY when you’re breaking the law, the most fundamental core law.

I appreciate your dishing some reality to folks. I think the answer to your question lies in the fact that the faction that laments and is "outraged" at these types of things lies in the projection of their own guilt about psychological manipulation and propaganda efforts by the technology tyrants that control websites and public square of their services. Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, YouTube, HN too, they all are in the hands of unaccountable, censorious, authoritarian self-righteous people who abuse their control and power to silence things they personally or ideologically do not like or disapprove of, regardless of the factual basis in truth or reality.

Try going on any digital public square website like FB, twitter, reddit, YT, etc. and point out things like that blacks commit wildly disproportionate amount of crime everywhere they are, even with direct links to the FBI crime statistics that prove it; and see how fast you are censored, mobbed, silenced, shadow banned, or any number of other abuses of power for literally just stating fact and reality, regardless of reasons, causes, or anything else. Society is clearly and objectively insane on a massive global scale right now by every and all objective psychological measures.

That's the cause of that inconsistency and incongruence you are noting, the fact that they are projecting their own abuses on others and it causes the rage that comes from the cognitive dissonance they are experiencing from doing it.

When you look at these types of things, does it bother you that, e.g., when you look at the "by country" view, that there is all kind of noise in the categories? For example, looking at the USA, under the "Region" class, hundreds of regions are listed that have nothing to do with the USA, let alone are relevant.

Just seeing that kind of thing makes me immediately question the accuracy and precision of the data if the creators didn't even conduct that rather basic due diligence. Which is also related to my inherent general concern regarding the data because it seems that everyone simply just accepts that data is not only accurate and precise, but that it has also not been manipulated and tampered with, even though currently there is very little way to verify the integrity of the data, let alone have it certified as accurate or even honest. What is considered a political ad? Is there any skullduggery going on where Facebook and others classify things they don't like incorrectly in order to manipulate things? etc

It's not like that is an unfounded concern and really should be a basic measure of journalistic integrity whether the data was evaluated or provenance was certified. There are some obvious and intentional distortions manipulative and abusive distortions that come to mind, ironically the most prominent one from the A D L that classified all manner of unrelated incidents as "right wing white supremacist extremism" in testimony to Congress an in general in public; including classifying two black people as white supremacists, classifying a domestic dispute as white supremacist, a murder of a cheating spouse as white supremacist, etc. all in order to pump up and manipulate data and impressions for political purposes. The A D L propaganda was discovered rather easily because their data set was rather limited and could be reviewed in mere seconds, but how do you have any confidence whatsoever in the data of this type of site, regardless of any kind of specific intention, let alone even unintentional manipulation and corruption of data?

Is the government of the USA even still legitimate if it just simply violates core Constitutional principles that the government is clearly and adequately prohibited from violating, while acting as if patching on minor laws and regulations rationalizes the violation of prohibitions to violate fundamental rights; the 4th Amendment prohibition on the government to search and seize without reason.

I realize the avg YC visitor will not want to hear this, but when you are taking care of

1) literally tens of millions of foreign nationals that have washed up on America's shored with all manner of maladies and even diseases that never existed in the USA before, and others that have been eradicated for decades, and all those people bring in multiples of their family members with all manner of other maladies and are of elderly age, who then immediately go on medicare and social security. And illegals the emergency rooms for any and all maladies since all of them are of course criminals (regardless of whether you want to split legal hairs, they are still violators or both the rule of law and committing major offenses against the society and people they are parasitizing).

2) The population is full of clusters of immensely unhealthy populations like blacks that are wildly disproportionately affected by specific diseases like sickle cell and kidney diseases and also lead wildly disproportionately unhealthy lifestyles with obesity rates off the chart all around the south in particular.

3) Our corporation captured government is utterly corrupt and politicians and the health sector is too busy lining each others's pockets to actually provide any real leadership of the country neither have any loyalty to anymore and are just trying to get rich off faster than the next guy before the music stops.

Just look at the stocks of health industry companies before and after "Obamacare" passed that was a massive last minute bait and switch pork barrel profit maker for the health industry, while essentially plundering hard working Americans to pay for the healthcare of millions of foreigners that have been imported into the USA against the enslaved American population's will … because having the product of your work taken from you to support the life and lifestyle of others against your will and under threat of violence and ruin is nothing but slavery.

So here wer are, paying twice as much for half the health care we got just 10 years ago when it was said it was bad, but at least millions of foreign nationals are taken care of at the American tax slave's cost.
