This all feels to me like Microsoft is getting desperate - it's the usual experience when the money in a niche is drying up: aggressive upsell and every damn thing trying to squeeze another dime out of you.
There is an important difference, in approach if not in ultimate intent: the alt right tries to look suave, intellectual, and hipsterish. (This is also why "debate" is exactly the wrong way to approach them as it plays to their charade. Antifa is entirely correct to respond to them with suppressive violence.)
Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of scum and villainy. The internet has to grow up and conclusively eject these kinds of people - don't tolerate them, don't tolerate their providers.
IIRC, on Linux at least the memory allocation thing is moot. If your process runs out of memory, it dies anyway. You can't catch "malloc says no" because malloc never says no. It either says yes or blows your process's brains out.
