The gamble is not taking it for overweight ppl that hope the consequences of being overweight/obese are less bad than theoretical consequences of glp1

ONE station has SEVERAL units

I meant it's irrelevant in the context of reactors not in general

It's easier to keep them stealthy vs getting it from a reactor that operates under special conditions where Russia definitely helped, especially under current IAEA rulling

Proliferation is irrelevant. It was not a Candu reactor what India have used and without Russia's help it's unlikely it would have happened. But there are easier and cheaper pathways - uranium enrichment distributed to be stealthy

Related to US, it'll happen sooner or later https://www.nucnet.org/news/atkinsrealis-to-begin-licensing-...

Looking at past few days, I wouldnt say it's on it's way to be solved https://app.electricitymaps.com/map/zone/AU-SA/live/hourly

SA has highest household prices in Australia (or close to the top at least)

Most dangerous phase of the waste is first ±300y. Afterwards most radiation is low energy and most of the danger would come from ingestion like with any toxic chemical

The design was bad in the sense they backported generator placement from US BWR projects in basement. It makes sense in US but risks in Japan are different

Yes, radiation killed zero. Evacuation - thousands

Ren= renewables. Hualong is the domestic Chinese reactor design

Enrichment is already more or less done by Orano and Urenco. They could expand faster if assured that EU bans russian imports

Also relevant - all recent Canadian refurbs were on time and budget

UK's regulations are so bad that even Hitachi pulled out from building ABWR

It's less about money and more about timeline risks. Canada's BWRX will cost per MW by plan more than French flamanville with all delays. But unlike Flamanville it has chances to be put on the grid faster

because opex is cheaper. Modularity can be achieved in large units too

you can create even more jobs with ren. But not all jobs are the same. With ren you compete with China. With nuclear - you are somewhat protected since many don't like the idea of a hualong near them

Barakah took about 8y/unit. But local projects are expected to take less. Part of the reason is precedent govts were willing to ditch the industry entirely like Germany

it's one thing to have regulation that makes sense and it's another thing to have regulation that doesnt do much. UK is prime example with HPC
