Trump has avoided a ground invasion up to this point for this exact reason, even trying to take one of outerlying islands would have heavy casualties due to drone warfare. There's speculation that the mess over the weekend was the result of a SOF mission gone wrong.
For people invested in AI it is becoming something like Maslow's Hammer - "it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail"
A "like a family" feeling isn't going to happen while one or more members of that family have total power over wages and employment of the rest. My relationship with my boss and my fellow workers isn't like that of a family, unless my Dad was paying me to work 40hrs a week and could kick me out of the house any time
The only way you'll get anything close to a family feel is something like worker democracy / worker co-ops. Bosses need to stop trying to force a culture onto a workplace and actually treat their employees like people.
I would probably be considered far to the left of most HN commentators, but I still find moves like this to be pointless.
Ebay, Amazon, etc are all private companies. So I appreciate the point of view that they can operate as they like. But they really shouldn't be prejudiced as to what they sell on their platform, unless there's some form of law-breaking going on (for example the Anarchist's Cookbook).
I'd prefer something at least like how WB handled older Looney Tunes or Disney handled the Muppets - add a disclaimer before relevant episodes explaining objectionable parts. But outright delisting from sale is wrong.
Ultimately these types of moves are bandaids on the real problems we need to solve, like police reform, the schools-to-prison pipeline, the war on drugs, etc.
