Fair points, the geography/margin angle is real. Two bits of nuance:

In a lot of those "poorer" markets WhatsApp isn't cheap-SMS, it's the actual commerce channel. People browse, ask and pay through it (India, Brazil, Indonesia, MENA), so even on thin per-message margins the volume and conversion are way higher than email/SMS ever hit there.

In richer markets it's still dominant for messaging across most of Europe and LatAm, RCS is still fragmented (Apple only just added it, carrier support is uneven), and email open rates are a fraction of WhatsApp's. So I'd push back a bit on "everyone settles on email/SMS."

Yeah, the July 2025 shift to per-message billing made marketing way pricier. The country spread is wild too, India is ~$0.0094/msg vs Germany ~$0.124

Founder here (Wexio, one of the three).

The angle that wasn't obvious to me until I had to explain it: these tools sell to the same Google search but completely different teams. Tidio is for a 1-3 person shop on a single channel, Intercom is for a 50+ person B2B SaaS with a sales team and budget, and Wexio is for teams whose customers come through multiple messaging apps (WhatsApp/Telegram/Instagram/Viber) and want a full web widget too without per-resolved-conversation AI markup.

The biggest structural difference is AI cost: Intercom's Fin charges ~$0.99 per resolved conversation, Wexio lets you BYO OpenAI/Anthropic/Gemini key and pay the model directly at ~$0.001-0.003 per resolved conversation. At 5k AI replies a month that's ~$4,000 vs ~$50 for the same job.

Our web widget (home + news + FAQs + multi-language + passkey/JWT auth) ships in June 2026. Article is honest about that being not-yet-live. Curious which of the three you'd pick for your stack.
