“Licensed crypto recovery”

What license?

Stock photos under “our team.”

“We will work with your budget.”

This looks like a scam.

Users aren’t that furious or they’d go somewhere else.

Reddit users see no irony in complaining about Reddit changes and policy on Reddit.

Reddit leadership won the API fight by threatening to remove mods. Then they brought back /r/place to distract users from all the changes.

Until users start leaving the platform Reddit will continue on its path of forcing everyone to use their app and looking at a near term IPO.

“The oldest mention I've found of people complaining about kernel drivers in Anti-Cheat were in an article from 2016. However the first time I saw it was when the game Valorant was released with its new Anti-Cheat Vanguard, which is still very controversial to this day. This happened in 2020.”

This goes back much further.

Sony DRM running kernel drivers was 2005 and there were video game anti-cheat programs using similar approaches around the same time.

It was also around this time that Joanna Rutkowska was giving talks at blackhat and defcon on her research (redpill and bluepill) and rootkits which led to discussion, research, and media articles on anti-cheat and other applications.

No. My inbox is already hell even with filters and rules.

And I love how we were going to not be so independent on email when slack and others came out and now I have to be logged into slack, MS teams, and 2 other apps as well as email due to the different apps adopted by various customers.

It would take 2 minutes to check on Nexus Lexis to see if these were real cases. Lazy.

One of the things I’ve found most fascinating through this saga is how many people are complaining about what’s going on with Reddit on reddit.

If you aren’t willing to leave and the userbase doesn’t significantly decrease it doesn’t matter.

Platform is important but it’s still secondary to number of users and communities in the world of social media.

His job is to double down on getting Reddit public with a successful IPO.

Investors want their $ back out of Reddit

I think he went about this completely in the wrong way and comes off as arrogant but on this I agree.

Many subs that didn’t go dark still seem to have plenty of participants and people need their digital crack.

I don’t see this being a digg moment for Reddit.

Are we really cross-posting things from Reddit here now?

Please don’t

I have a friend who works for the state department overseas. He came to visit a few months ago - he’s in his mid 30s and now has to wear a hearing aid.

He also often loses his balance due to vertigo. I witnessed this first hand and had to prevent him from falling.

Whatever the cause, this is not something that’s made up, it has severely complicated his life and his partner’s.

All the articles against the backdoor Roth reference Peter Thiel’s Roth. That is a very, very rare situation and he purchased PayPal stock for nothing using his Roth because it was a startup. PayPal could have taken a different turn and failed.

Yes there’s a tax benefit to backdoor roth but the max contribution is $6000 a year and most people are going to get index fund rate of returns and not Peter Thiel’s home run.

And Thiel did not get around the max contribution rate.

I love software that just does what it’s supposed to do and is so good at it that it’s an underpinning for other projects.

FFmpeg, curl, nmap, et., al.

My first job was writing software for the newton. It was ahead of its time - calligrapher (what they called their handwriting recognition software) was actually useable and worked better than anything else out there. Battery life was good.

Ended up having to move the business application that the company I was working for used over to windows CE

This is exactly it. The goal with rising rates is to cool the economy (soft landing vs a crash). That almost always means a rise in unemployment - the late 70s and early 80s economic crisis played out exactly like this.

Despite tech layoffs unemployment still remains relatively low. The hikes are not having the intended effects.

The money offered was good but when compared to the cost of living of having to relocate and my then company’s benefits and pay (although less) the delta/net benefit was not enough to make me move.

This was 12 years ago and the salary plus stock was nothing to sneeze at. I have zero regrets.

And the tiny dungeon master.

As a kid who played D&D I never understood why the cartoon dungeon master was the guide and friend - when playing D&D our dungeon master was pretty much trying to kill us all the time

This is funny to me because I remember going to a talk at comdex years ago and the speaker kept saying “Bluetooth is coming I’m so tired of hearing this” and then he made a sarcastic comment about how Bluetooth would connect his belt and shoes and phone and everything else and everyone laughed.
