Plenty of over-specced tractors on farms too.

Lots and lots of LHD trucks serve the UK making daily cross channel trips, or even just based here full time from Dutch / Eastern European shipping firms.

I've acquired three types of table spoon in my kitchen drawer. The largest is nearly double the smallest. It's absurd that this is an actual unit of measure.

Anyone know why this life story rubbish seems particularly acute on recipe websites?

I get the authors are doing it to boost Google rankings. But why do I only see it on cooking blogs, and not on blogs about cycling, DIY, programming, urbanism, whatever else I'm searching....

Not many tech blogs start with a 4 page life history before showing me the code snippet I'm looking for.

True in terms of salary. But that misses the huge time cost of recruitment (time writing job specs, screening, interviewing + 3 months or so of lower productivity) when often retention could be improved with zero / low cost culture changes.

My problem was the mid-level managers ha. As it has been in a previous employer as well actually.

One problem I've noticed is the sort of person who wants to apply for management roles is often the exact sort of person who should never be given that role.

I've just left a similar workplace and while I feel my reasons for leaving were right, I do slightly regret my decision.

It's frustrating that too often management don't see the problems everyone else sees, and would rather waste $£ on recruitment than retention.

Only times I've used it was for occasionally needing to touch SQL Server.

That was a few years ago, there might be better ways of interacting with it now.

Here in the UK the union leaders manage to look like tits all on their own.

I'd love to have a workable union system for tech workers here, but I just don't see what they offer unless you can persuade meaningful numbers of your coworkers to sign up.
