Currently the word "vim" appears 78 times in this post's comments. when in fact it's talking about "Sublime Text 3 Beta".
How is vim relate to this topic (except the fat it's another text editor)?
How about the fact Sublime Text 3 is a major version with just minor additions and fixes? this is strange ...
Why people tend to make a flamewar of everything related to programming languages and their editors? use wtf you like most, what fits your current needs best, and if you find something you like more or your usage change, switch.
Yup, indeed this is the main problem here. I work with PHP for many years, but i would not suggest using PHP layer as core of my "Taxing software", PHP is not statically typed means it's not suited well for this job, in e-commerce sites i built in past there were always problems when it gets to tax calculations, you learn to deal with it by wrapping your calculation code in the right way and testing it currently.
It is probably the case when unskilled programmers just used number_format() directly instead of wrapping it with "Tax" class that does that you want it to do, and nothing else. it was indeed common in PHP 4, but we have moved since then.
I think http://alliances.commandandconquer.com is a huge jump in web based gaming, it works great on FF and Chrome (faster on chrome, don't care about IE really), It's private beta, so i can't give much details yet, but i'm sure it will set a standard in lots of areas in web based games when released. And this leads to why i think we don't see it really bloom right now, the technology is there, someone needs to set the standard.
three.js looks good, I'm just about to dive into it, there's: http://spidergl.org/ and http://scenejs.org/ and they all look kinda solid, I actually have no WebGL experience, neither much OpenGL. but i really want to develop some web based games, and did quite a lot of research in the field in recent years.
If anyone developing open-source web based (WebGL or sprite) games i will be glad to help, i got my JS skills from years of web development and some free time.
This can be useful for real web development if it's feature set will be close to an IDE like PhpStorm (works great on Linux and Windows btw...) - until then, this can be used mostly for small snippets and small maintenance tasks.
very cool! but this seems to work right only on Chrome 11? FF4 animation does not change color / does not restart and in IE9 it just looks green and ugly. can't see much use right now :\
reminds me the year 2000, yahoo.com and Mafiaboy. 10 years passed since, i see nothing has been changed, and this time i guess it's not ./smurf, better, it's the LOIC! so even people who don't know what a packet is can use it to harm corp.
this application also looks more like a game, a one that will cost lots of money. totally agree someone should take IT security more seriously.
NICE! wonder if you can actually use this to build a site that enables you edit it's own code form the web just like this. would like to see/develop something like this, cause if the site can work only with JavaScript, why not never exit the browser while developing it ? :)
you can't provide the same stability, bandwidth and connectivity with your home internet connection as host providers usually give you, although i know several web hosting companies that do feel like they sitting on an ADSL connection :\
wow, they got 34 sites on the network! although most got only 200-3k questions - with new sites on major topics like: "Cooking", "Game Development", "Photography", "Mathematics" .. and a great Q&A system, they can really dominate the web.
