Agreed. I have a friend who loves to brag how frugal he is. AFAIK he's not actually living his life. Not saying he needs possessions to enjoy his life but he doesn't spend on experiences either.

As for my possessions, I didn't buy them for others or to show them off. I bought them to enjoy them and I do.

Not really sure what the point of the advice is except maybe don't buy things to impress others.

I just want to add, colors is pretty poorly designed package.

It modifies the prototype of String! This is a well known anti-pattern (yes, there's a safe mode you can opt into but it shouldn't have the first mode at all)

It also has a ridiculous "theme" feature that can be replaced by the same amount of standard JS. Meaning you gain nothing by using the theme feature that you couldn't do yourself except you make your code more dependent and more likely to break/need updating/etc since you added more dependencies to achieve something where none was needed.

It does tries to do too much by auto detecting whether or not to emit colors and provides no way to tell it what you actually want (since it's guess may be wrong)

You could pass it via a SharedArrayBuffer

I don't know Sac's demographics for people who work on cars but I've never associated being a car nerd (someone who works on their car(s)) as a more hispanic/black thing. In fact my stereotype is the "white trash" (used as a shortcut for the description, not a judgement) cars parked on the lawn. My brother-in-law, in LA, white, has had 10 cars on their property, all beaters, he works on all of them.

Are you sure home car maintenance isn't more associated with poverty than race?

I think I wish there was a fine per customer per data item when a data leak happens. That it was 3x if it is discovered the company didn't report it in a timely manner and that it was high enough that companies would be reluctant to collect the data in the first place.

not sure what unintended consequences there would be.
